Which graphics card?

I never knew Corsair make graphics cards....:erm:
I was just talking about computer parts in general. With Corsair I was referring to their memory, SSD's & PSU's.

I reckon the issues that we see here on myBB in terms of hardware problems is just a fraction of what is actually being returned to the retail stores - so we might be pretty quick to judge some of the brands.

Well if you think you can just move the OC slider on a tuning program to the max and blame it on drivers for frying it...you going to have a bad time.

/facepalm

Actually, what I was referring to had nothing to do with overclocking. SC2 came out (some other games were also affected, but this was the most vocal group of users), everything was fine. Then Nvidia had a driver update, and the internet filled with posts about GPUs overheating. Some even went full meltdown. Now a half decent driver would throttle at high temps dont you think?

You're a bit clueless on this "who's drivers are best" issue arent you? I'll give you a hint - the answer is nobody. Both sides have drivers that perform 99% of the time, with 1% "stupid drivers RAWR" moments

You cant just install your drivers and play the game...you must also install a program such as MSI afterburn, rivatuner or EVGA precision to control the fan speed of your graphics card....Did you know that if you do not install such a program your fans stay at 30% ALL THE TIME? If i set my GC fan to 30% and play BF3... I see temps of 80-90 and on hot days 100+

Not sure if serious..... :wtf:

edit: for clarity, you are completely wrong. Drivers can and do set the fan speed.

I would'nt post something if I wasn't 100% sure about it...and no...drivers don't control the fan speed of a graphics card.

????

Hahahahahaha

I've done it in AMD catalyst, havn't tried nVidia as I now use Afterburner for OC. But I'd be surprised if it can't be done..

EDIT: For clarification are we talking about the driver managing the fan (auto) or manual fan control?

Ok, to be fair ATI drivers does have a GUI to control the fan speeds....Nvidia don't...that's what i was trying to say.

So Nvidia cards sit at 30% fan speed if you dont manually override? Just so that we are 100% clear on what you are trying to say...
edit: and you NEED a GUI of some kind so that fan speeds will actually vary?

That's exactly what I'm saying.

Bwahahahahahahahahaha
Epic! :D

No dude, Nvidia cards ramps up and down based on temps as well, without any user interaction. And if they really didnt... well then you've just shown why AMD has superior drivers ;) So you either admit you are wrong on this fan/driver thing, or you admit AMD has better drivers...

I mean, how do review sites get increased noise with their cards under load? Is my friend hallucinating when his GTX580 increases its fan speeds under load (with no other software to control the fans installed)? etc etc

Howzit guys,

I actually had a fan speed problem the other day with my gtx570 and eventually swopped (RMA) it in for a gtx670 due to fan speed problems..

In fact, every card has a overriding controller chip which controls the fan speeds and other functions of the card. Drivers can have a influenced as the can reset the chip with new coding, but the fan control is usually a simple graph of the hotter the card gets the higher the fan speed. Now with 3rd party programs like afterburner, they actually override the control chips fan speed table and use software related tables.

My point is that the card controls fan speed by itself, if it does not, then return the card as say its broken, because it is. You can fix the problem with 3rd party software but then your doing what you paid your card to do.

I'm talking about nvidia cards only as this is the only cards I have experience with.

And my point is fact!

GTX670 is the bomb so I really really suggest you wait a month or 2 and get one.
