You do realize the test suite is 176mb to download?

so? I'll burn them to CD's and drive around cpt if I have to... :D

I just think it would be really helpful to everyone out there looking to get a media player.

ofc peeps need to be honest....

Question:

Any specific reason you guys prefer to use .mkv files? I use .mp4 for HD/720p and .m2ts for FHD/1080p.

Got my mede8er last week, no regrets at all. Decided not to get involved in the debate and just do my own thing. Already enjoying my media as a result and the little guy has played absolutely everything I've thrown at it, including an 8GB .mkv of Dark Knight.

I've got a 20GB mkv of Lord of the Rings it plays fine....

MartyMarts, my guess is that most 1080p rippers use mkv...

Ah. Next question:
Do you guys notice a difference in quality of these massive mkv's vs the 'smaller' ones?
e.g. VonPickle mentioned an 8GB :erm: .mkv

p.s. Don't mean to derail the thread, just seems like there's a continuous debate about media players having problems with certain mkv's, so I'm starting to wonder if I'm the only person who overlooks them when erm... 'acquiring' my movies.

Holy crap, that's more detail than real life :)

@MartyMarts - I can notice a difference between a 2GB and an 8GB rip, but I think it also depends on the compression used and all the other odd options available in .mkv.

I see... I think I'm gonna try out one of these 8GB monster mkv's.

What TV do you have and how is it connected?

As of yesterday, a 40" Full HD Samsung LCD (LA40C530). Just the PS3 and Dstv SD hooked up for now. The tv plays .avi and .mp4 files directly off my 2.5" ext HDD and .m2ts files using the PS3 (via HDMI). I'm interested in getting a AC Ryan Playon (or Mede8er) for the 74cm CRT in my bedroom though.

Then you will see a difference, give it a shot and be amazed.

well tbh, I prefer the small movie files, mainly because I don't really care that much about awesome quality compared to just decent watchable quality.

the biggest movie I had was a 20GB Hellboy 2 but because 1 I didn't like the movie that much and 2 that for me it was a waste of space, I re-downloaded one of those 500MB MKV's and I am happy with it.

@HTC
I posted previously what I encountered while playing those test MKV's and the fact that the custom firmware I used played all my MKV's without any problem.

do most of you NZB your stuff? cause I mainly just get from file hosts.

@Gnome how big is your anime collection? you are making me drool here :D

If you think that's big there are a few sites where people post whole Blurays. I saw a post for the 25th anniversary edition of back to The Future trilogy and the whole thing was about 135GB!

wtf? erm... well based on my average monthly download that will take about 2 and 1/2 months for me to get.
