Which inverter to get

I failed dismally to solder the wire, my soldering iron has a dirty tip which seems impossible to clean, the solder just doesn't make a decent enough adhesion to the strip, I will have to get a better iron or the tip, and some rough sandpaper. There's also glue and the sticky stuff all over the terminals so will need some cleaning agent as well.

The other battery also burn out at the exact spot, also showing good signs of life since I am getting over 13V as well.

Have you tried cleaning the tip with very fine sandpaper and surgical spirits?

No surgical spirits, just sandpaper, it just gets the black coating as soon as it gets hot. I will try to clean it properly, it is just the first time I encounter such a problem, and it's a newly bought iron.

Usually simple cleaning and coating the tip with solder usually works.
 
Hope you never used the solder for plumbing which is different compared to what is used for PCBs

Maybe ask if Electroman can repair it for you. They do make LFP packs and they probably made that one so they should have all of the tools.
 
Have seen some that skip the transformer part and. Just use a lithium bank as power source


And they add a relay with a push button

That way you can apply decent power on the strip to push it down and then tap the push button for the arc

Edit we don't all have an old transformer of that size lying around

Both of them are sorted by the way, I still feel like getting the spot welder thing to make a better job of it, the strips are still not very reassuring, the one that burnt out is slightly thicker, the others are thinner.

You can even do it without the relay , but the switch will be toast quick

Or if no switch two man operations

Someone holds battery and strip in place and applies pressure

And you come with live copper points and just spark

Remove to stop spot welding as still live

If no copper bar can ad copper nails with chocholate block to wires too

ie to try and limit buying for one time use item
 
What inverter would you recommend for just lights and plugs its a 1 bedroom flat
it is more about what you will power

ie lights and plugs running just tv/internet and a light or two, for 4hrs shedding
you can get away with almost anything with lets say a 500wh battery or bigger

while just running tv/internet/light/one beast gaming pc chowing over 500w
you would need more than 2.5kwh

and then if you want to recharge quick enough in the middle of 4off 4 on 4off session
you would need 50A charging on 12v or 25/30a charging if 24v system

so first decide what has to run calc peak watts to select minimum inverter size
and then for how long for minimum battery size

and then most important on cheaper systems , what is the shortest time you would need to fully recharge
to calculate a minimum charge rate

this may force you to get a higher voltage system making it more expensive, as higher voltage often equals faster charging

ie if you take out 2kwh and can only recharge 1kwh in x time at some point you will sit without power

you can get around this on slow chargers by having a bigger tank(battery) and rely on time you sleep to get the tank full again because you used less you can top up reserve tank

That doesn't look great. With a 10a charger that thing will probably take more than 8 hours to fully charge.
