I agree with Roman on the blacks - you've obviously got to fine tune. The blacks on even my 2 year old LCD are the same and better than some plasma screens. The issue with mine is they're not as uniform as a plasma.
 
Dolby have you seen the blacks on a plasma? It is pitch pitch black as in so black it cannot get any blacker :D

I bought it for windows and i am happy, just giving my opinion on the motion aspect of both technologies and plasma beats led for sure. I have fiddled with the settings and i cannot get anywhere close to the blacks on a plasma, then again i can't get the plasma to go any whiter where as the led is very white. If i had to choose between the two of these based purely on movies i would keep the jvc plasma in all honesty but for movies, games, OS's(all in one) i would go led.

Perhaps samsung has pc mode for plasma's and i just bought a cheapie that is not good for pc's but it works fine with pc's just not nearly as crisp and clear as the led.

I will play around and see if i can get the black black but i would not to compromise anything to get it black in all honesty.

Yes - I sold my plasma after 2 years to get the LCD :P

I also went shopping earlier this year for either a plasma, LCD or LED - with only a size constraint and no budget/technology constraint. We walked in looking at everything and walked out with the LED.

There's also a site on here which does reviews of sets - contrasts, black levels, white levels, fall offs, distortion etc. They use calibrated, scientific equipment to measure - in lab conditions - all these factors.

I'm sure PostmanPat won't lie to you when he tells you what the figures were ... and tells you black levels of later model LCD/LEDs were ahead of many entry level plasma screens. In other cases they were equal or only marginally worse than a plasma. I'm sure TYR will tell you the result of his LCD and his KURO plasma when looking at the black levels in particular ....

Basically - depending on model yours may be worse than your plasma, but it certainly shouldn't be a night and day difference

High end LCD vs entry level plasma. Compare apples with apples - entry LCD and entry plasma, high end LCD with high end plasma. It's not fair comparing a R10,000 40" FHD '10 LCD with a R5,000/R6,000 '08 42"/50" HD Ready plasma, as an example.

TYR's 5 year old KURO has deeper blacks than his 1 year old LA46C750.

Dolby i am not really sure how to explain the black anymore than this on my jvc plasma.

Think of the colour black, think of the darkest black you can imagine, then picture my jvc pushing that out. Cheap or expensive you cannot get darker than the blackest black. My jvc may be a cheapie but the picture quality is not cheap.

It is wonderful for movies, it's just on the pc where text is small that it suffers but the picture for movies is simply beautiful. It's actually better than my 9k samsung for movies. I know people like to defend this or that but i don't care lcd, led, plasma i don't have one i like i am telling you what i can see between two tv sets.
 
PP - I'm nor comparing or fighting ... Seriously.

I'm showing him that the 3 technologies are close nowadays. Regardless of who 'wins' at the end of the day, they're very close

I'm just commenting that there shouldn't be a huge difference in black levels

Yup there should, go read online. One of the major pro's of the plasma is the blacks are solid blacker than black black :D.

Led, lcd simply cannot replicate black the way a plasma can. It is very well documented and perhaps the gap has closed but my cheapie jvc pomps my 9k samsung in that department, add in the motion of the plasma is far superior. For movies without a doubt plasma is the way to go. Led/lcd would not be a bad choice but it is not the best choice for movies.

BTW - you should check out http://www.televisioninfo.com/ - who've done reviewing for 12 years. For those sceptics, ethics http://www.televisioninfo.com/content/ethics.htm and http://www.televisioninfo.com/content/How-We-Test.htm#blacklevel the equipment used. In a nutshell, it's not 2 guys staring at a screen.

Check out some of the black level tests between each technology and notice how close they are. Generally a plasma will have better blacks - but the differences are relatively small. My 2 year old my level had better blacks (yes - it bettered!) the blacks ever so slightly to certain plasma screens.

As mentioned earlier, we have a member with 2 plasma screens - one being a *gasp* KURO. He bought an LCD and he was extremely impressed with colours, motion and black levels.

Now if you noticed anything about Postman, it's that everything has an excuse .... lights, commission, settings, signals etc and he feels the above reviewing is biased (he prefers to post blogs or forums) and plasma technology doubles every year. By his own admission, the best plasma a few years ago is pure CRAP today and keeps letting us know about TYRs old plasma :/
