So you gamed yourself on 60Hz and 120Hz TVs?

Game said they will match and subtract R200 from the price if I find it better. Besides they are quite willing for me to play around and see if I like their tvs. So after my pay cheque, I'll give them the SD/HD tests :)

You could not compare TVs at a worse place. I'm sure I explained this in detail, that you cannot test TVs at Game/Makro.

Because clearly it's been misconstrued. I'm quite sure my advice was that in your individual situation, you would only benefit from getting 120Hz in gaming, since people don't use it for movies, etc. (the other uses you will be using your TV for).

I think you're misunderstanding a HDTV's [100Hz+] engine. In the case of 100Hz, the TV is accepting a 60Hz signal, and then adding it's own calculated data to give you the "smoothed out" picture. It's adding artificial data, how good it is is based on how good the engine calculates, etc.

I don't know about you, but there are more games than wow. Besides if you really read that I said I was using Rift as a comparison and not wow. Now I'm not getting into a pointless debate, quoting and so on so it's better to let it stand, let me do my thing and we all go on.

I don't remember seeing Rift mentioned - only WoW and possible image burn (which I showed was a non issue, so I guess Rift will be the same).

I didn't say anything like "gaming needs 100Hz". I think you heard what you wanted to hear, due to your plasma scepticism. :/

Once you realise your priorities may be lying in the wrong areas, you will realise it's not pointless at all. Contrast and screen size are said to be more important that Hz (and even resolution).

Or the fact that they their inferior signals going to the plasma?
Or even that they change the setting of the plasma in the evening to look crappy?

Those are pretty bold claims. I wonder what Game management would say if I brought it to their attention

No you're right. For gaming the max fps the GPU can send to a TV is 60, limited by the 60Hz input clocking of TV's HDMI ports (I think high-end dedicated monitors can do more on HDMI?). All other frame rate acceleration is done inside the TV.

The D5500 is a strange one, am not 100% sure of its actual motion handling capabilities. Other models are pretty clear cut ...

The D5000 has no Motion Plus (engine based frame acceleration/interpolation) so its a 50/60Hz set. But it does have LED Motion Plus (high speed strobing of the LED backlight) for a Clear Motion Rate rating of 100Hz. The D6000 has (configurable) Motion Plus & LED Motion Plus for a CMR rating of 200Hz.

The D5500 has LED Motion Plus, as well as a Motion Plus setting, but its only On/Off unlike the D6000 which has 4 predefined settings and well as fully customizable anti-judder & anti-blur. So anyone's guess what On means on the D5500? It still has a 100Hz CMR rating like the D5000?

I don't think so, maybe hdmi 1.4 but as far as i know it does not matter low or high end, hdmi is limited 60hz. So buying a tv that is 120hz and thinking you can run hdmi at 120hz ain't gonna work out so well.

Perhaps the higher end will need to run vga, i am not sure if vga is capable of more but i know with my plasma on hdmi i can only run 60hz or lower but with the vga connected i can run 200hz.

I also cannot notice much difference between hdmi and vga in terms of picture quality yet people there is a big difference but it looks pretty much the same to me.

Yeah I run my PC's monitor (Samsung BX2450) off VGA at 75Hz, never bothered to get a DVI-HDMI cable. Might get one to see if the BX2450 allows anything higher (not that its a high end model).

I also cannot notice much difference between hdmi and vga in terms of picture quality yet people there is a big difference but it looks pretty much the same to me.
Supposedly gives a more accurate picture since is end-to-end digital, will check it out.
 
Well i got it hooked up. Cannot see a difference between hdmi and vga, if anything vga is brighter and more vibrant. I will test with bf 3 later on but it seems there is little to no difference. I will play with colours on hdmi.

Blacks are not black like plasma which i knew but still wow this led is pretty amazing. Cannot honestly say i notice the difference between led and normal lcd though so i think postman has it spot on there. Movies run better and look better on the plasma without a doubt. When i say run i mean the motion on the plasma is practically flawless, on the led it's not as smooth. The depth of the black is very different on the led but the whites on the led are white, not slightly off white so it's a win on the whites, lose on the blacks but then again maybe the jvc is just cheap but my jvc plasma looks amazing with movies.

It is simply mind blowing in windows though.

Got the DVI-HDMI cable, and I would give the edge to HDMI, on my BX2450 colors have bit more vibrance on HDMI, but as you say the difference is not great.

With a bit of ge-tuning you should be able to match the blacks of a low cost Plasma like the JVC. I prefer a high contrast picture and there is a setting which allows you to whats called 'crush the blacks' at the cost of sacrificing some dark detail. Play around with Picture -> Advanced Settings -> Black Tone (amongst a few others).

It is simply mind blowing in windows though.
Yeah, also picked up a DisplayPort-DVI adapter for my Macbook Air and connected to my 46D6000. The picture is pretty wow (in both OSX & Win7). Not sure why others have had such problems getting a sharp picture out of the Dxx00 LEDs? I loaded up a test pattern with 5 point writing and its perfectly readable (obviously TV running in 1:1 pixel mapping mode -> Screen Fit and GPU driver set to zero overscan).

EDIT: Forgot to add, if you want your fonts to looks super sharp in Win7, re-run the ClearType Text Tuner once you've connected the new display/TV. Can be found at Control Panel -> Display -> Adjust ClearType Text.
