i ended up buying the PS43D450 today. What can i say? The picture is gorgeous. Glad i went for it. And for 5k i feel like i've scored.
 
Honestly, Plasma's usually hurt my eye's (anyone watch Big Bang Theory and know sheldon's view on plasma's) well that's how i feel :D

I got a 42'' and wouldn't consider using on my desk (Though i have had a problem with my eye's and migraines recently and so i try to take good care for meh eye's)
 
Sheldon doesn't like them.

He's somewhat of a perfectionist and I suppose the flaws - no matter how small - still bug him
 
Something I've noticed : Plasmas tend to be grainy while LCDs tend to be "blocky". Anyone else seen this?

Well he obviously uses his HDTV as a PC monitor, otherwise his opinion is just that, and not based on facts. What would be unfortunate is if people draw facts from such an opinion on such a stage.
 
I recently bought the PS51D450.

I use mine for Xbox gaming and HD DSTV viewing and I must say I am impressed. I know its not a FHD panel but Blurays looks way better than HD DSTV on it.

As for Image retention, my children often watch a recorded show in the morning and when they leave the house the dont switch the tv of and the PVR menu eventually ends up on screen. When I come home(6-8 hours later) I switch the TV of there is no retension whatso ever. Leaving it on for that amount of time is not IDEAL but in my experience IR is a non issue really.

I guess you have to permenantly watch 4:3 content in pillarbox to for it to become an issue.

51" for 6K is best bang for buck.

The other one was also SQ01, anyway the replacement is another SQ01 but doesn't have the same color fade along the edges and also it doesn't have backlight flashing on the sides. It's near perfect just like my 46D550 SQ01.

I don't get why the first one I tried was crap because they're both from the same store and probably the same batch, the only difference is I have not updated the firmware on this one but I don't see how that matters because the latest firmware is on my 46D550 and it's fine.

It's a no brainer really.

I was looking for speakers are there was set A at R3,000.00 and set B at R30,000.00. Everyone recommended set A to me as well and I bought it! Never looked back!

It is a brainer of you can't fit 50" in to your room :erm: ;)
 
As mentioned above, go projector if building a media room.
Here is my setup and it rocks...

1. Entire house gigabit ethernet wired.
2. Core2Duo PC with Mezzmo (DLNA Server).
3. LA40D6000 in the lounge (SD PVR in the lounge too). DLNA client on the LG TV's are way superior to the Sammy's IMO.
4. WDTV Live devices on all other TV's that are not DLNA capable.

Then the game room. I call it the game room because I play XBox in it more than watch movies but it is effectively a home cinema.

1. Acer H5360 720p projector. 2500 Ansi Lumens which makes it more than bright enough for day time viewing.
2. 120" projection screen 16:9
3. WDTV Live Hub (prefer this to using the XBox for streaming from Mezzmo but XBox/PS3 will work too).
4. LG D670 Blu-Ray player (also is a DLNA Client)
5. HD PVR

For general TV viewing we just sit in the lounge. For gaming or movie night we head to the gaming room (home cinema). The projector literally kicks the 40" in the butt when it comes to an overall movie/game/sport experience. I know a lot of people that kind of dismissed this until they visited and I showed it to them. Now a lot of my mates have purchased the H5360 for the better experience. It is not full HD (only 720p) but that was a choice I made based on price. A full HD projector can set you back quite a bit more, The H5360 I got for R5,999 and picture quality is amazing.

The Acer H5360 is also 3D capable but you need to hook it up to a PC with nVidia 3D technology. There is a newer model that I am considering upgrading to that supports 3D directly (just plug your 3D Blu-Ray player straight in).

I hope this helps you. Just don't dismiss a good projector for a TV until you have seen it. After all, you don't go to the cinema to watch a movie on a big screen TV :)

That, and it has better PQ than entry LCD which costs more for a smaller size.

Your analogy makes no sense.
