WHich is best? PLASMA vs. LCD vs. LED

Oh my hat, after seeing a D6000 I want that! But R7500 for a 32"..... :/

I just looked at that D6000 at DionWired/HiFi C. What a great piece of equipment. Yet with the LG LW4500 3D series going for R8000.00/40" and R11000.00/47" its a hard decision to make there is just no match at that price point.
 
My eyes are taking strain, taking the 32D550 back today, using my old LG W2252TQ 22" since I sold my Samsung S27A550 on sunday. I'm not sure what to get anymore, the TN pc monitors have very very bad vertical viewing, and the S-PVA 32D550 had washout on the sides, with slight ghosting (my 46D550 doesnt have that washout though?), and the LG S-IPS 32V3530 I returned on monday had the most ridiculous ghosting and input lag (after much thought, I'm not even sure if it was actuallly an S-IPS panel).
The option to go for is probably the Dell UltraSharp U3011 but at R10 000+ est. its a bit expensive.
Whats left? What would be the best? Maybe the 32D550 I got was just a lemon? Geez I'm tired of hunting for a good display for my pc.... :/


Anyone know where I can find a Panasonic THL32U30R? Can only find the THL32U20R which is last years LCD instead of this years LED.

Can you explain the problems?

Seems to be one of the best locally/easily available LCD TVs you can use for a PC monitor, so you'd probably have to investigate them pricey PC IPSes.
 
Well i bought a 43" jvc plasma and i have to say for movies it is pure epic. Picture is awesome, blacks are black and colours are very good.

Motion is also insane. I want to use it as a pc monitor and this is where plasma fails. Got a 46" led sammie coming next week so i will compare but plasma for movies and TV is amazing.

I saw some sammies but in all honesty the movies looked fake. Plasma these days doesn't have burn in issue, they have anti burn tech but still don't leave it on a still image for more than 15 minutes, rather just switch it off if you have to pause for something.

So you reckon JVC quality is ok? I know when i was growing up they were the bee's knees: premium brand. But then my impression is that, like Telefunken, they were bought out by a low-cost, cookie-cutter company that pops them out fast and cheap. AM i wrong?

They've had these anti burn in methods (or burn in reduction) since the beginning I think ; they're nothing new.
 
15 mins is pretty low. I mean watching a movie is approx 2 hours where you have the channel logo fixed on the screen.

JVC is flippin epic i reckon, i saw a 56" inch led there as well and i was in love. JVC makes excellent monitors.

The nice thing about plasma is the blacks but led i think have that covered now. I was also a bit concerned about jvc until i saw a few. Really good. Their led is as good as samsung. The only thing i can say is the tv software and menu is fairly limited compared to samsung but my 43" plasma was 4999 and i thought that is an excellent price.

Dolby what anti burn tech have they used? My jvc for instance shifts the screen every 30 seconds, tiny amount. I don't even notice it anymore so images cannot stay static for more than 30 seconds and plasma has come along way since the first days but i will compare if can get my hands on the sammy 46" led. I can say plasma is horrible for computer use :D. Pc games look good though but text is not lekka. Also i like that the screen doesn't look odd from angles.
 
... because if you have - for example - a red logo (solid colour) 10 x 10 pixels .... and the screen shifts 3 pixels to the left, the first 7 remain lit ... then it shifts up ... and again a certain portion remains lit regardless. Once it's done the cycle - there will be pixels in the middle of the logo that haven't shifted at all.

They reduce - but they don't remove altogether. My plasma was 2007 and it had it - anbd I'd been reading about them for years. Something tells me they've been using burn in reduction for over a decade now

Going even further, Fujitsu incorporates an orbiter of sorts that moves the displayed image in minute pixel increments to disallow burning the plasma panel phosphors

Look you could be right but i am fairly certain a 2011 has far more tech than a decade ago or why would samsung and so on still push plasma's? For movies and stuff plasma is the superior tech and i googled plenty on the burn in issue and very few people experience it.

Well i will see hey, i am running the contrast at 40 for the moment as recommended. I play bf 3 for like 10 hours and no issues so we will see i guess.

You mentioned pixel shifting and the general thought is that these burn in reduction methods are new. All I'm saying is they've been incorporated since the beginning - 13 years or so?

I reckon the reason they're being mention so often now (as opposed to a few years back) is that the burn in/retention issue was quite large and they now need to 'market' that they've available

You got some image retention. Not burn in. I take it the ordeal left you so traumatised that you still have to harp on about it 5 years later like people need to worry.

LET THOSE WITH IMAGE BURN IN SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.
