High end Sony & LG models.Which TV model's available locally use the LED matrix?
Thanks, out of my league then.High end Sony & LG models.
f you thought all LED TVs were created equal, you're underestimating the power of confusion as a marketing tool. In their continuing efforts to compete against the picture quality advantages of plasma-based flat-panel TVs, makers of LCDs TVs have introduced numerous new technologies. The most successful in our opinion is full-array LED backlighting with local dimming. When you see the words "LED TV" in an ad, it definitely refers to an LCD TV with an LED backlight, but what type of LED backlight and how it's configured make all the difference.
Guys, can I throw in a suggestion that this discussion ends.
It's clear that everyone has their opinion on the matter and this isn't going to be settled...
Yes - I looked at it myself ... and decided myself that I like it.
Almost like when I went into the store and saw my LCD side by side to the plasma next door and thought 'I like this. I prefer the picture. I will - therefore - buy this to replace my plasma at home'
There was nothing a BMW salesman could tell me that'd change my mind on what I had seen - another the TV salesman could say to convince me my eyes are deceiving.
When buying a big sound system - the first recommendation (from you too) is to listen and decide yourself. That's pretty much how it works with most products.
Its bizarreness is shown in how many people buy plasma (after I advise them).![]()
Sorry, I'm not trying to be nasty, but I think a lot of that is down to nobody bothering to post on these topics anymore. Everyone knows what the standard response will be - buy a Samsung plasma unless you plan to sit 1m from the screen. And then it turns into a Plasma vs. LCD war, with charts and links and whatnot.
Obviously if somebody buys what you recommend, they're going to be happy with it because most people need to feel that their expensive purchase is justified.
The best piece of advise for anyone is to head down to a store with a sample video and compare it side by side for themselves. If the lights are too bright then they should find another store to test.
Anyway, as you guys were then![]()
Yea but PP ... a while ago you thought people bought the box because it said LCD.
In your opinion it was an expensive, horrible technology with grey blacks and dull colours - and a salesman simply saying 'it's good' means that a person will buy it. That's slightly warped :/
If you disagree - what was the reason for the the superior, cheaper, establish plasma sinking away and LCD taking it over?
That was 2+ years ago when the difference was overwhelmingly in favour of plasma as my eyes told me. Of course LCD progressed far in its catching up to plasma
Actually, we showed you my 2 year old LCD probably had better blacks and contrast than your plasma :/
Regardless though - if x number of years ago LCD was so bad, my question is why did people buy it then?

Your 2 year old LCD is a mid range Series 6 LCD. My Series 4 plasma is entry level from the same time as yours (C range). There is no comparison between the two.
You honestly believe that marketing is that powerful?
It can make people buy a expensive junk product over a cheaper superior product?
Interesting - so isn't quite as clean cut as you think?
PS I've only got a 'B ... so your 'C plasma is leaps and bounds ahead - isn't it?
Anyway - just thought I'd inject some other opinions and views into this subsection.
Have fun!
I don't care about your LCD or my plasma. I am talking about the two pinnacles of each technology compared.

Did you miss the whole VHS vs Betamax thing in the early 80s?
Hey guys,
Anyone know how the LG PT350 (42" plasma, 720p) compares with the Samsung PS43-D450? Game have them both for the same price right now: R5k
