Which is better: Alien or Aliens?

I prefer Alien.

Imho it is just better in all regards over Aliens which seems to get lost in itself with too much action rather than building on what made Alien great. However, I suppose I could entertain the idea that they might be seen as two halves of one movie. It wouldn't make Aliens as good as Alien for me, but it can pass as being better.

I managed to finished Aliens Extended on HBO Max today which was definitely better than the theatrical cut.

Different types of movies. Alien is a classic slow ramp up of horror with amazing atmosphere and a building sense of dread.

Aliens (I always watch the SE) is a fantastic action thriller with great suspense and a helluva ride. Prefer the characters, dialog and interactions a lot more in Aliens.

But of course, Aliens could not exist without the first one. Two absolutely terrific movies that still hold up decades later...

Both are excellent, I just prefer the pacing of Alien and the way it teases the Xeno and the sense of horror around it.

Alien set the benchmark for horror sci-fi movies, but Aliens was one of the few sequels that met, and maybe exceeded the original. Action and suspense and great acting. Pity they screwed the franchise up from then on...

I'd go with Aliens.

Alien & Aliens...MAYBE Ali3n. The rest were bad.
Prometheus & its sequel could have done so much and they didn't deliver at all.
