I used to live in PE before moving to London 6 years ago. My folks still live in Fernglen, PE and I would like to get them ADSL as a thank you.

Being out of touch with SA boradband, after some research I have decided on Axxess (folks live 5 mins away from them if they ever need to complain) with their R289 for 512k and R19/Gb capped lite package.

They will use it for browsing the internet and the odd skype video session with family overseas.

Can you guys please confirm this is a good package for them or if you are aware of better for less?

Thanks in advance :)

Also how long does the adsl line take to become active, 2 weeks?

Well 512 is overkill as unless they have multiple user simultaneously using applications that require good latency, they will not see the benefit.

Also Telkom is still one of the better ISPs for the general Mom & Pop. MWeb is the only other option but that is for uncapped.

I use to be in PC retail and Telkom & MWeb always came up as the better ISPs for the general public. A lot of guys will go for me about the Telkom recommendation but Telkom stores are more customer friendly than in the past. I use to be a big Axxess fan but lately they have gone down as they rely on IS.

On line activation, you need to confirm with Telkom. 2 weeks is the norm if they have ADSL lines available.

EDIT: Personally I use Telkom as my usage is less than 5Gb a month on a 384 line and have yet to find fault with them. I work on remote Amazon servers from home, play online with my PS3 on UK servers with no issues, watch YouTub, etc with no problems.

Just registered to reply to you. I returned to PE two years ago to retire to a retirement village very close to your "Old Folks" (!!!) After a lot of research we settled on iSAT. they are a small team based in 6th Ave. Walmer. Their rates are great with many options. No call centre and if your folks are like me and often phone to ask (what to them is probably a stupid question) you soon get to know the guys. They are very patient and friendly. You can use your own landline or they will organise one for you. We have a daughter in Pretoria and a son in London who we Skype regularly. There is no fixed contract you just pay monthly in advance. If you run out of internet time you can just top up online and it gets added to your next bill. Contact Angela Walton locally on 041 5816999 or email her [email protected]. Hopes this info helps you.

Thanks for the replies

I would rather avoid Telkom tbh and both iSat and Afrihost are more expensive than the Axxess package I mentioned.

I've had other people suggest Axxess to me and I think this is the one to go for :)
