So I'm currently with Telkom for my ADSL which is becoming increasingly annoying because of how they do their shaping/throttling on the uncapped products compared to others.

I am looking around at other ISPs to use for this but a bit difficult to make a decision on a specific package to go for.

So with Telkom I've got a 4mb Uncapped account that once I hit the soft cap of 300GB it starts get throttled/shaped

Now the offers I've been looking at are based more on an unshaped account because I can't deal with slow internet because I've been "using it too much"

So here's the offers I'm considering:

Afrihost 4mb Business Uncapped: R797pm line rental incl.
Axxess 4mb Business Uncapped: R799pm line rental incl.
Crystal Web 4mb Business Premium: R899pm however with Line Migration it's an extra R249pm it seems so total of R1148pm (please correct me if I'm wrong on this and also is Premium really that much better compared to Basic?)

Those are the 3 I can find currently that match what I need. I use the ADSL mainly for Gaming (downloads and online play), Netflix, YouTube, Browsing, Mobile (updates etc) and then I also use p2p downloads as well which I understand if those are scheduled between midnight and 7am they don't count towards shaping of any kind?

Any advice on a choice of the above would be great or if you have another option please let me know

Thanks

These are the ISP's I would strongly recommend. But change it to capped accounts instead. I'm on a 4mb adsl Afrihost capped, Streaming Youtube at 1080p and netflix at 720p no buffering at all, gaming I get between 16ms and 20ms to JHB servers and between 188ms and 200ms on EU servers. I don't download that much though, but downloading from origin and steam at full speeds. If you sign up for a 200GB account, you can also add their afrihost+ option for R99 and get double data.

Crystalweb >>>>>>> anything else. Dont even bother with other ISPs, you'll just be dissapointed, try CW and then be happy at your new home.

I use the CW Home Premium, and it's always worked very well indeed. Cost would be R678.

Crystal Web have started throttling on their Premium accounts... even YouTube

Try get Telkom LTE uncapped. See if it's available in your area. How much p2p per month you doing roughly? They throttle after 50gb.

http://www.telkom.co.za/today/unlimited-broadband/

I think p2p alone not factored in with other things would be somewhere close to 150GB, it does vary month to month depending on what I download, yeah I have looked and it is available but there's no space left on the tower in my area so I would have to sign up and wait and I think that price will change once they create extra space for new customers.

Saw the product and thought it was a great idea though was really keen but by the time I checked it out there was nothing left.

Will definitely take a look into this and yeah thing I like more about Afrihost is if their capped offering doesn't workout I can easily switch it on the mobile app without even worrying about calling and stuff. I'm open to pretty much anything because I mean nothing can be worse than Telkom.

Best value for money is Afrihost double data for R100. Whatever capped package you get they will double your data.

So R299 for 200gigs, R399 for 300gigs, R499 for 400gigs etc.. You also get uncapped from 11:30pm-7:30am for all your big downloads/torrents during this time you can quiet easily get an extra 200-300gigs.

With the money you save from the premium uncapped pump your line up to a 6/8/10mb/s (if you can) and you will have a much better internet experience.

I agree. CW are the best ISP. Doesn't necessarily mean they offer the best value for money though if your internet needs are few.

Crystal Web have started throttling on their Premium accounts... even YouTube

Source?

...I am the source - I have 10Mb uncapped premium home account had no problems until recently, 720p YouTube streaming is very choppy atm, testing using different ISP accounts using a network monitor tool seemed to prove it...

I do download a fair amount tho (eg. alot of streaming and 500+ steam games with auto updates on)...

And no - nothing was downloading during these tests.

well i'm happy with my move to Vox,scored their R164 special and now 200gb per month roll over for R164 comes in at a bargain for me!

Capped though

in short...

1. mweb: let me tell you how to use the internet mr abuser
2. afrihost: just hold on while we change providers
3. openweb: sharing is caring at hotel california
4. vox: give me sugar; baby
5. webafrica: guys? cancellation button or support ticket?
6. telkom: here is the playing field
7. crystal web: forbidden but suppressed knowledge

Crystal Web Home Premium Uncapped if you're a home user. Not business premium. That's aimed at businesses.

Yeah but does Crystal Web Premium have unshaped like most Business packages have?

Not entirely unshaped, but mostly unshaped. I hardly EVER saw any slowdown on my CWP account.
CW Business accounts are not unshaped. CW don't see business as an "upgrade" to home.

That's where I could choose Afrihost instead they only shape if you do p2p download during peak hours but mine are scheduled already to only run during off peak times so that cancels it out

Details?

What account?

How much data?

As a home user you will cry if you use a CW Business product. Their Home Products are designed for home users.

Have a friend on Afrihost and he said I should go for their Business Uncapped because it would make sense as I won't get throttled
