Which of these 3?

Okay, after much research and deliberation, I've decided to play it safe and rather go with a Samsung TV. I've narrowed it down to 3 options. I'm gonna be using the TV mostly for watching series/movies from my multimedia player.

Here are my 3 choices:

1) Samsung 32" HD Ready LED (50Hz, 3 x HDMI, USB 2.0 etc) - R4999 at Game.

2) Samsung 37" (94cm) Full HD LCD TV (3 x HDMI, USB 2.0 etc) - R5999 at Makro.

3) Samsung 42" "HD Ready" plasma - R5799 at Makro. The reason I quoted the HD Ready is because the resolution is only 1024 x 768.

What do you guys recommend?

PS: I'm going to get a mede8er soon as well.

Tend to agree with you, even though the plasma would look better.

Plasma is only a "necessity" if there's going to be TV and sport being watched and the signal doesn't exceed 720p.

Full HD is more important in this case.
 
No.2 for sure
I'm considering spending an extra R1k to get the 40" version.
 
I'm going to differ and say the 42" purely for the larger size. Your series are probably only to be in DivX which isn't as high quality as mkv. The clarity on the 42" is going to be more than adequate as it is so you pay less and get a bigger screen.

Another thought is the room size, small, medium or large?
 
Hmmm, thanks guys. It's a small viewing area and we sit really close to the TV, but I am also thinking of the long term, which is why I would prefer to get a bigger TV.
 
For your application I would say option 3.

You will not see a difference between 720p and 1080p on a 42" panel, even when watching a BluRay. (you actually need to pause the picture and closely inspect them sisde-by-side to pick up on any difference ... under normal viewing, no diff whatsoever)
You will see a difference between 37" and 42".
You will see a difference in black levels and shadow detail between two models with different abilities to produce deep blacks ... I assume since you will use it in your bedroom that the room will not be brightly lit when you watch TV (I am also only making an educated guess here that the plasma will be better ... you need to view both, some LCD models are better than some plasmas).
You will see differences between models with regards to colour correctness.
You will see differences wrt motion processing.

So, you need to decide whether you want to spend your money on a difference that you will never notice, or whether you want to spend it on stuff that does make a difference. Either way, if you view this as a sizeable purchase then never only go by online reviews and forum suggestions ... go and view the different options under the same conditions (lighting, viewing distance, media etc) as you'll be using it with.
 
I would get number 3 for now

With the long term plan of moving it to the bedroom later and replacing it with a 50" for your main viewing purposes
 
Yup number 2 definitely, I mean even Postman is saying get an LCD over a Plasma it does explain the weather we having ;-)
 
Hey guys

Just an update: I caved and got the Sammy 42" plasma :o I can only concur with the general consensus that it's an awesome TV :D Got it for R5500 at Audio Vision in the Waterfront.

That the C430 or C450?

You obviously decided to go with the better image technology that is PLASMA. :D

I know, riiiight :D Cheaper than Makro as well. I was quite surprised to see some of their prices. The place has been revamped and is huge. They have tons of TVs on display.

It's the C431. Now I just need to get a HD multimedia player with HDMI and then I'm sorted :D Just trying to decide between the mede8er and the WD TV Live.

Mede8er will be the most satisfying. You should also be able to get from Esquire, so even more incentive to go with Mede8er. MED500X is pure awesomeness though... But ya, if you don't need internal HDD, you don't need it.

I bought the Compro 950 and am more than happy with it. Cost me about 1300 with a 1TB HDD. You're more than welcome to test drive it at my house if you'd like to check it out or borrow it for an evening to try.
