Which Party?

If you look at England in recent years, based on Monty Python's sketch "Election Night" some people put themselves up as Silly candidates just to show discontent with the political norm.

Indeed - some of these parties are the stuff of legend.

Best known is the Monster Raving Looney Party

http://www.omrlp.com/

By our government standards their Party Manifesto has some very sensible proposals:-

The problems of prison overcrowding and increased crime will be solved easily by issuing a compulsory contract on McDonalds to do all prison catering. Convervative estimates suggest a 50% reduction in crime rates within 2 years with 0% re-offender figures.

Good Heroes
Make it illegal for super heroes to use their powers for evil.

Put a Sock in it
All socks to be sold in packs of 3 as a precaution against losing one.

Obeescity in Kids
If you want your kids to be less fat...feed em less (do we need to make a policy of this?....its common sense)

No fly Zone
It is proposed to declare the Channel Tunnel a No Fly Zone.

Nice Curves
A government agency will be set up to paint contour lines on to hills and colour roads the same as on maps. This will help people know where they are.

N.H.S
Chocolate be available as a prescription drug

Women's football
To get more men to watch women's football all players should have to swap shirts at the end of games (or better still, every time they kick the ball?)

I would vote for them.

You don't like the way the country is being run. Fair enough. Then why not vote for someone that you think will do the best job possible? Not one of the parties are the best. At least choose second best, but please, please do not sit at home and not vote.

YOU MUST VOTE!!!!!!!!

Just checked -

The Freedom Front support a referendum on the death penalty.

The DA make no mention of it.

The ID make no mention of it.

The UDM have such a horrible website I just couldn't find anything.

The IFP support a referendum on the death penalty.

The ACDP support the reinstatement of the death penalty.

The ANC do not support the death penalty and I imagine the same for COPE.

As the last two and the DA are the only ones that count, no matter who you vote for the death penalty is not coming back.

Me sa think, that if you do not have respect for others life, then you should have no rights and as you have no rights, I do not see why my tax money should be used to keep you alive and give you 3 meals a day when old people in this country do not get 3 meals a day!!

You really have to be annoyed when people do not use their votes after the struggle to give everyone the chance to vote! No party is going to match exactly what you are wanting, unless you start your own party, so you would usually need to choose the one that best meets your needs. I think a spoilt vote is just a waste and a cop out!

Pooky, you stated you are not happy with the ANC and then you end off by saying you will vote for the ANC! Make some effort and find a party you do want to vote for. Don't just vote for someone because you "really want to vote"... make it count.

I always keep in the back of my head that a true democracy needs a strong opposition, so if in doubt vote for......

I have made effort trying to find out but these parties sites are shocking. I definitely will not support a party who considers supporting the death penalty. So show me one that doesn't apart from the ANC and COPE and I will consider them.

The ANC refuses to even consider the death penalty.... now I personally do not like this attitude. I would prefer a party that would consider it, thus allowing debate and discussion about the merits, or otherwise, of reintroducing it. This does not mean they would automatically introduce it but will allow discussions.

You also need to realise that a lot of these parties will use something like the death penalty to win votes. If they get into power, unlikely as it may be, they will still need to work out how to implement the death penalty in the face of our constitution...

We won't get into this debate as it is always going to be an opinion... but I really cannot see why a law abiding, non criminal citizen would be opposed to the death penalty being introduced.....

Yes lets not go too OT. But to be brief it's a question of ethics and human rights.

Why is the death penalty so high up on your list of priorities?

Surely things like accountability and anti-corruption etc etc etc are more important.

I vote DA. But now that the ANC has split in two, I think it makes room for alternatives????? I doubt it.

I fully support that attitude.

The ANC/COPE are looking more and more inviting by the minute.

Actually...

The right to life is protected by the Constitution. So in order to get the death penalty back, you'd have to amend the Constitution.

For this, you need a two-thirds majority, which only the ANC is likely to get. Add to that, His Assholiness Jacob "Doctor" Zuma has publicly stated that he would like some public discussion on the matter...

So really, if you're against the death penalty, your best bet is to vote against the ANC.

True, I've listened to what Mr. Zuma have said during his rallies, and he presents a very tempting leadership promises. Sadly opposition parties, are caught up in the Zumalema campaigns, unfortunately people have no interest in that, people want Jobs and a secured future, and that's the story which ANC is delivering in their rallies.

As for COPE, I do agree with what they are proposing, a change in the electoral system, so that we can vote for our leaders, instead of bullying organizations. But that message don't win elections, voters need to be enticed, give us something better.

DA, well I'll need a hypnotist to convince me to vote for it. Tony Leon corrupted my mind so bad that I cannot even imagine my vote going to DA. He spend most of his political career preaching negativity which did not go down very well with me. Helen Zille, is a principled politician, unfortunately the current political climate denies her my vote.

Others, thats as far as I can go FF+, UDM, ID, IFP, ACDP, PAC, KISS, they are just a waist of ink, thats my opinion though.

My Vote 4 2009: COPE
Because I do not want to see SA becoming another African country, a one party state cannot be referred to as Democratic. COPE has a better chance of being a stronger opposition party than any other party in the country. Lets strengthen our Democracy....Who's with me?
