Hi all and thank you for your help.

I've had this router now for about 8 years and I think it is dying on me. I have to pull the power plug more than once a day to get internet again. Sometimes it only drops wireless connection and other times both wired and wireless.

Please recommend something I can replace it with. I had a look at the Netgear DGN2200-100PES N300 Wireless ADSL2 Modem Router but don't know if it will be OK. I have lost touch with routers since I did not have the need to keep myself up to date. I know something with a faster wired & wireless connection speed will be nice.

Thank you so long.

After 8Years of good service I cannot understand your viewpoint, just get another Netgear! Unless price is a factor.

Yes, I'm 100% with you. I'm just wondering what specific model I must look for.

i've had my netgear since 2004 and its still going strong if at some point i need to change
i will take nothing other than a new netgear router! the DGN2200 is a very good replacement btw.

Stick with Netgear - the DGN2200 is a great model to replace your DG834GT.

Have u tried updating the firmware? I have the same router, feels like ive had it forever. There are some custom firmwares out there for it and i found it gave mine a new lease on life. The only thing that i replaced recently was the ac/dc power supply unit which must have got wacked by a surge or just old age, dunno

Official firmware here: http://support.netgear.com/product/DG834GT

I cant find the URL for where i got the custom firmware but it was created by DGTEAM

Thank you for the link. Yes, it had the latest firmware installed.

Hi There,
DGN2200 would be a good replacement.
I just put in a TP-Link W8969 which is pretty good but it does not have the Q0S that I had on the old Netgear.

Regards

Tim

I have bought the latest one yesterday and must say so far I'm happy.

You should have gone with the Netgear DGN2200 or the 8960 one both were way cheaper and great which helps cause they can be knocked out anytime from power surgers or lightning.
