Which SUV to choose?

For your budget opt for a very very low mileage 2017 pre-f/lift Ford Firebox 2L gasoline turbo. 240bhp (177kw), 340nm torque & AWD. Full house spec. It should have the Sync 2 infotainment system as well.

SUVs aren't built for speed, unless you pay a lot of money. That's the first thing you need to get over. Then, I can recommend the Honda CR-V. It's not fast, it's not incredibly powerful nor is it the fanciest thing on the road. It does drive like a dream though and, well, it's Honda reliability. I love mine.

Yeah, no, that "Honda Reliability" thing was true for cars from the previous decade. They're just like most cars these days. I owned a Honda and it was complete crap so in my opinion it's all about the "luck of the draw" when you pick up a new one.
 
The CR-V is my second Honda. Not a single issue with it, TBH, so to me, it's hella reliable.

In that case, you might wanna consider less speed. Think: safety.

When our 3rd little one was born in 2014, I moved from a sporty corsa GSI to a Freelander 2 HSE. It's a full-on SUV with lots of luxury, better safety features and you can take the road less travelled :)

At the time, I also considered a Chev Orlando, XC60 R-design, Forester, Sorento, CR-V, Q5, Patriot and Wrangler Unlimited.
 
Second hand X3 with the 2l Diesel engine. The torque makes a big difference on the heavier vehicles, the 8-speed auto is brilliant, AWD if you ever want to venture out, up to 7 years of plan and they’re pretty reliable.

B-Class is an MPV and so was the first gen.

I drive Honda jazz also not a single issue with it, just do my service and petrol then I'm good to go. I have a friend who drive the brio it's ugly but also reliable little car.

But most cars these days are reliable just make sure you do, the service and maintenance. The car will love you.

If the dog is an issue, get a dc bakkie. You are never going to sort out the dog issues with an suv. An amarok or ranger drives like a car.
 
Most SUV's I've been in are actually quite small inside unless you go for a 7 seater.

Recently drove a Audi Q5 and I can fit more in my mid sized sedan... Doubt it'll be any/much bigger than a GTI.
 
Still have two years of motorplan left and want to sell the car...sense it does not make.

Even without any motorplan left at all.

As for going to an SUV and losing on performance well it’s a different car so that’s a given. You’ll need to deal with it.

What you should really be asking us how often you really used all that performance anyway. If it’s less than 10% was it really worth it in the first place?

And a GTI is a fine family car. But not so dog friendly I agree. Rather sell the dog. :)

pfff , what you stressing for , 2 years on motorplan , its still a new car.Have a 2003 wrx (real performance car) fully modified and done 225 000km
 
Dumping a car with two years service plan for a second hand SUV doesn’t make any sense to me.

Once you see a car as a toy/entertainment and stop looking at it as a "bad investment" it all starts making sense.
