When it comes to tablets I'm honestly clueless.

My wife is doing her masters this year and she requires a tablet to work from in class.

As it is only for reading PDF's and the odd "me time activity", I'm looking for an entry level model.

On Take-a-Lot there are a vast amount of options, from Huawei, Lenovo & Kindle Fire.

Which brand would be the best bet, knowing it would not be for anything intensive.

Tablets are quite pricey for the purpuse they have. I am considering an ultra book or something like the thinkpad. Maybe a demo or secondhand, running Windows 10.

Take the brand names, models and search for reviews on youtube
You know there's channels dedicated for such stuff
i find forums to be more accurate as people say what they wanna say from experience
vloggers and bloggers for instance are usually there to make themselves look good and make money

I don't distrust Youtube but rather find forums to be more accurate when it comes to advice :)

I don't know too much about tablets. I can offer some personal experience on the Amazon range. My kids got an Amazon Fire tablet as a gift and it has been terrible. So difficult to navigate, load apps, find settings etc. Everything is complicated on it. Maybe this is because my wife and I both use Android phones.

We are considering selling it and replacing it with 2 entry level Android tablets for our kids. The other brand I would avoid is Huawei

See if you can't pick up a second hand iPad. I don't use many Apple products but their tablets are best in class imo.

Best value for money hardware wise is hands down the Amazon fire HD range. My wife has one and has been extremely happy with it.

I've got a Lenovo Tab 4 8 inch, and it's perfect. There's a 10 inch version too, and a 7 inch - if you're looking for different sizes. Battery life is excellent, and sound is amazing once you put the Dolby setting on.

It depends on your price range, but I think it's good value for money and is a good solid build.
