Which Tyre brand to get?

Sure, dude. A bunch of folks with a tyre mould in a forest clearing in India, or in the shadow of a thousand smoke stacks in China, have the same R&D capabilities as the big guys... and elephants can fly.

Look at reviews all 'round the web and see that, almost exclusively, no-name tyres get panned in comparative tests. Sure, 90% of the time your el-cheapos will do the same job of keeping your car's rims off the road as my Michelins do... but when I'm travelling through the Karoo at night, only to see the outline of a kudu looming in the headlights, I do not want to spend my last 2 seconds thinking "fark, shouldn't have been such a tight-ass".

It depends how and where you drive your car. I drive like a grandma and only to and from work with a few long distance trips in months.

Proof : I had a Corsa Lite and it was deadly with the standard 155/80/TR13 Continentals it came with from the factory. I fitted wider 15" wheels and opted for cheap Heros and the car handled a million times better. So no, brand has got little to do with it.

Dude, tyres have been R&D'd to death now, its pretty simple these days so you don't need to R&D it more. Be round, provide grip, displace water.... we get the concept.

...180km/h... in a beat-up old Opel... with a cellphone/camera in hand... for the sake of recording your odometer rolling over? Any doubts I ever had about you have been erased...
 
Bru, my Astra G just rolled over to 191,000km and it is still flawless. That video proves that tyre brand does not mean anything. Things like ABS and EBD means a whole lot more, not to mention superior driving skill.

Exactly, it handled better because I fitted wider tyres on it. The brand played no roll at all. Glad you could finally see the light.
 
So I went to repair my bent rim and passed by this tyres shop. Got Yokis for R680 per tyre. Paid R2900 full set + alignment.

Now I need to replace front shock and repaid my spare rim. Eish.

you will have to do alignment when replacing the shock again

I know. LOL I couldn't wait to replace them tyres because money would disappear. Alignment is around R150 so not that expensive.

you are replacing both fronts right?
