Hi all! I need to get a UPS urgently as I work online from home and loadshedding is of-course a problem. I need it to power my laptop, light(s) in one room only, and my wi-fi router for as long as possible. I have looked on Takealot etc etc and read forums but reviews and opinions are so varied. I need something that will be easy to set up, plug in and work kind of thing with all the power cords needed etc.

What's the difference between the cheaper (R2000+) 1200VA Inverters and the one you recommend? Is it the battery?

You need an Inverter, not a UPS
a UPS was designed to keep your computer powered in the event of a power cut.
This would then give you time to save your work and shut down your computer

For loadshedding you need an Inverter.

Us geeks modifying our UPS's to run right through load shedding poses risks such as fires, i do not recommend you go down this route. Good Luck

Ah ok! Thanks. Glad I asked on here as I thought I could get a UPS. Yeah I need it to keep running as I teach online for hours and moving to an area where there's load shedding. I would not attempt modifying it lol. I just need to plug-and-play :)

Wait what do you mean moving to an area where there is load shedding? Were you in a magical area that hasn't experienced load shedding in 12 years?

Lol it's just the road I'm in doesn't get loadshedding... apparently because we're on the same grid or something as the harbour and they don't "switch" harbour "off". Not 100% sure why. But now I'm moving and even though I'll be in the same group, I will now have loadshedding.

Strange Eskom will load shed a government hospital but will leave a harbour alone. Unless the harbour has generators that supply certain parts of the grid. I know people who used to live near the DD campus didn't get shedded due to the campus generators going back into the grid.

Yes it is strange. Something to do with how much money gets lost if the harbour is "off".
