Which UPS to get?

Indeed this is everything included with the battery. Plug and play
Can I just go for the standard battery? (There are options for standard, deep cycle and AGM) I will not need this every day during loadshedding periods. Only four days but Sat & Sun the most.

Meh. Can't I just go long running ups for a router only? suppose the 5-12k is the 5-12k I have to spent :(

Yes a normal 2000va UPS is fine for just the router for good few hours.

I use 2000va at home for my router.

Even this will be fine I think model has 2x batteries inside.

A 1000VA RCT or Mecer will do the trick for a router and laptop only.

I recently bought a Mecer 2000VA 2*9Ah and it's an overkill for the above.
Next step...leisure battery > 100aH and inverter for TV, DSTV box, router and laptop which will run all that for 4-5 hours during worst LS times..

Backup power for only the router, wouldn't just a normal powerbank and one of those USB to DC adapter cables also work?

You need an Inverter, not a UPS
a UPS was designed to keep your computer powered in the event of a power cut.
This would then give you time to save your work and shut down your computer

For loadshedding you need an Inverter.

Us geeks modifying our UPS's to run right through load shedding poses risks such as fires, i do not recommend you go down this route. Good Luck

My girlfriend and I had this discussion countless times and in the end went with a small inverter/charger with batteries for now and will add solar to it when we can.

No, insufficient current output on the USB port( 1A)
Most routers need 2A.

wise move, i never leave my lounge UPS on when not at home as i am running 2x105aH lead acid truck batteries

If you are using DSL be aware that powering your Wireless Router will probably not have you with internet.

You'll need some form of LTE fail over.

Indeed telkom stop replacing the batteries at exchange, my adsl goes off when the power goes. Switched to lte a few months back to avoid this.

I'm one of the lucky ones where the exchange only goes down after 1:40 - 2:00 hours.

This is what you want. I work from home and have not once been without power in my office. As for Internet. You'll have connection as long as the towers stay online.
