I am in the unfortunate position of not having ADSL in my area and no commitment from Telkom of when they plan on rolling out ADSL. So my question is, besides iBurst with their exorbitant prices considering what is out there, which wireless ISP should I go for?

I am in Strand in CT and looking at the following options:

Kawuleza Connect @ R1199 pm month to month for 1024kbps unshaped uncapped business account
http://kawuleza.com/services/wireless/

B360 @ R799 pm month to month for 1024kbps shaped uncapped
B360 @ R999 pm month to month for 4096kbps shaped uncapped
http://www.b360.co.za/

My only concern with these smaller and new companies is support and if they will still be around in the next few month.

I dont want to spend over R1k for a device then find out a few months later that the company went bust and I'm stuck with an expensive door stop.

I still can't understand how iBurst cannot match the prices that these two companies are offering?

Ask Telkom whether you can get WiMax in your area. Have a look at that and an uncapped account.

Telkom max speed is 512kbps. I'm not prepared to go below 1024kbps.

Telkom have not given any firm commitments on when they will be increasing their WiMax speed.

It is "imminent" but we all know what that means.

Telkom is bigger than all the other wireless ISP's and if the smaller ones can offer speeds as high as 4096kbps, I fail to see why its taking Telkom and iBurst so long to increase their speeds.

Iburst has still not responded to the Mweb offer as well as the frustrations of many of their current customers on their new pricing structure that is even more of a ripp off now.

Using WirelessOnline but the B360 deal seems really well price in the Wireless ISP space.
I'm currently on 1mb capped line and havent had any problems with it the last 8months i've been using them.

Looks like I'll be going to B360 as Kawuleza does not have coverage in my area.

I still have 12 months left on my iBurst contract :(

Good for you wish I could too. But still expect a price drop before the end of this month on their packages. Just make sure about the contention ratio on the uncapped.

I called the called centre today about cancelling my contract. I asked the agent if she knows about any response to current ADSL prices. All she could say was that they already released their new prices and it does not look as if there will be any changes. So I'm not hoping for anything drastic to be announced by iBurst soon.

How long did you wait before they picked up?

Accounts dep took about 3min to pick up. They couldnt help me with cancelations and gave me the number for Retentions. Retentions took about 5min to pick up. They shouldnt call it retentions as they really dont try to keep you as a client. When I told them that the reason for cancellation was pricing, no effort was made to see if they could accomadate me.

According to jannievanzyl, the average waiting time is 20 odd seconds. Maybe you were just unlucky.

Wireless ISP

Did you look at B360's website? They offer free installation with any uncapped package so yes i think they have some nice packages.

worth looking at!!

I have two connections with Kawuleza at two different sites and have had lots of problems with them over the last year. Constant disconnects which corrupt downloads, high latency problems especially for international connectivity (and even site to site connectivity) and poor feedback on support issues. I am desperately looking for anothe ISP that can provide a better connection using the same equipment. I had to pay for the equipment and am now stuck with it.
