Whisk(e)y Lovers thread(II)

Um what is this?
The Friday Whisky Mafia is a group of almost 50 guys from Joburg and Cape Town. There's a casual online meet every Friday. We do themed tastings every month and sometimes get the Master distiller/blender to host us if possible. We source bottles locally and internationally and do splits of the bottles so everyone gets to taste them. The additional costs are only for bottles/caps/printing/labels/shipping, there's no markup on the bottles.

That Ledaig was my 2021 whisky of the year. It's incredible and great value for sub-R2k when it was released. Ardbeg 8 needs a lot of oxidation, an hour in the glass, it definitely got us talking.
The Ardbeg was beautiful was open for about 30min or so before drinking then waited another 30min or so.

All in all, all beautiful whiskeys but ledaig was a beauty!

Still available but about R2400 now and getting rarer. :D
Indeed! TBH I dont bother buying up bottles anymore unless I am traveling internationally. I have a few great whiskys at home but love trying as many as possible on an occasion like this.

I brew loads of beer so hobby funds go into the home brewery :)

Heck we even have nitro now :)

Arguably the worst bottles you can buy except for things like Octomore :(.

I appreciate whisky more than ever now I just dont buy up bottles like I used to.

If there are limited single cask runs etc will still grab one of those for example :)

My sadness was more for the beer, I don't like beer. :D

There are arguably too many single casks. My purchasing is limited to things I tried and like and distilleries I follow/like.

Ah I see :)

See the thing is I can brew anything I want all the hard to get styles etc. From lagers to barely wines.

As long as there is something you enjoy then all good :)
