Stroh and Absinthe was the first thing I ever got drunk on.

I was a really young teenager and had no understanding what I was doing with the alcohol we managed to get through a mate's older brother. The brother had told us that for the spirits we need to "mix them" so we don't **** our night up. Stupid me thought he meant mix the alcohol together so there I went. Half beer glass Stroh, half glass Absinthe.

Woke up in the garden the next morning, face covered in ants.

That shipping nonsense sounds like it has to be Bottega.

I also love the "bottled sometime between 1966 and 1970" on the Yamazaki. If you're dropping 2mil+ surely you're owed some form of provenance? Like, am I dropping the average South African retirement package on a real Japanese whisky or is this a rebottled Invergordon?

I think it's simply the fact that the older bottlings are falling by the way-side and the real ages are now on the shelves. Because of it being mothballed from 1996-2002, Glendronach was using much, much older barrels than what was put on the label when they started releasing the core range, again.

For what's probably my favourite distillery, they're really inconsistent across the board which was the apparent reasoning behind going "chill-filtration" so they could maintain the same flavours throughout their releases.

Pity it isn't the 14 but a fantastic price for Mortlach.
Was my same thought, has to be Bottega.

Agree on the Glendronach, sounds to be the case. Was quite keen to try some of their whiskies, but after seeing newer reviews will rather buy other ones.

Checkers Overport (Durban) has some of those Springbanks in stock - if anyone is looking for more.

How's the Three Ships 11yo Whisky Brother release? I'd prefer PX cask but the Oloroso has me intrigued.

Been on a bit of a hunt and picked up a few new additions from the past couple of weeks. Stoked to have found the Heavily Peated and Springbanks (The boxes are a bit dinged up but anyway)

Then the Inchumurrin's :)

Springbank boxes have always been paper thin. Doesn't take much to destroy them. Which edition of the peat in progress did you get?

Ya not too worried about the boxes. Now they don't even come with a box.

It's batch 4 of the Peat in Progress, hoping some batch 5 will make it here

IMG_20220221_085237.jpg Checkers Malvern, too. Seems to be popping up a lot recently. None of the Durban stores I frequent had them a couple months back.

Had quite a nice dram yesterday:

Which release/year is this? There's a batch code on the back of the bottle.

I picked up one and it is really heavy with something I can't put my finger on. Oak? I'm surprised you enjoyed this and not Glenallachie. This feels more like an older bottling of theirs than a Glendronach!

I have no idea. It is a mate's dram and we were visiting there.

Pity. I'd be interested to know which year you had. The variance is wild.

Most in SA seem to be 2019 - which I'd never recommend anyone getting.

Just for anyone's reference if they want to pick it up, these are the timestamps (not the weird code on the bottle that says '21xx' etc).
