Whisk(e)y Lovers thread(II)

So browsing Takealot on Saturday I see this come up - 1 in stock. I very quickly order it knowing there is about a 90% chance that there isn't going to be an 18 year Springbank in there, not for that price.

Package arrived earlier and as expected this is what I got, at least 1 of them was correct (not the right 1 though). I know it is from a 3rd party but how do they think people are going to accept it and not just send it straight back. Was worth a try anyway I suppose :crying:

But that is a blatant scam!! Surely TA cannot just let this one slide?

And then: I'v e been following the development of this very closely and from day one promised myself I will buy it.

So here it is and hopefully it is as good as I hope...but with the Arran team behind it, I am very positive indeed.

Quite curious about this one. I like Arran but there's been some mixed opinions on all the various cask releases they've done, so I was cautious about acquiring the Lagg.

Very annoying, seen it has happened here before and don't think much you can do beside get a refund. They will just claim it is a mistake
That is just ACA Liquors with a new name. I don't know why TA don't shut them down.

Agree, they just keep doing the same thing. I suppose Takealot don't care as they making money off the sales and if they get called out they just claim it's a third party

Has anyone tried this? Seems quite pricey considering you can get a bottle of Bains for pretty much 1/3 the price and even a bottle of Bains 15 year for the same price.

As it is supposed to be a single cask they could have at least upped the ABV a little, but then again maybe it doesn't need it

Looks like a bottle of aftershave

It's supposed to be all "hand crafted" and all "artisanal" but then they do not release it at cask strength :X3:

Fail.

General consesus is that calling it drain cleaner is an insult to drain cleaner, nevermind calling it whisky which is just a travesty.

Haha, wow. Not that I was considering buying it but it has just constantly been coming up on my socials, was curious for opinions

So I received a sample of this stuff and tried it last night - here are my tasting notes I shared with our club:

On the nose is turpentine followed by thinners and then some sugar cane juice. A very raw oak note follows similar to their previous iteration.

The first note on the palate is akin to eating steak tartare that has gone slightly funky. This is followed by a hint of overripe, if not rotten, banana. A bitter note prevails and leads into the most awful of finishes.

This stuff is truly awful in the most awful sense of the word. I can’t actually believe someone thought this good enough to bottle.

The turps/thinners not is ever present. This just gets worse with each sip. Unbelievable!

This has phuqued my whole evening up because I’m not sure my palate will recover before tomorrow.

I ended up pouring the rest of the sample down the drain.
