If it's to be scotch that tastes crap at over R900, I'll then add this. R1800 and I hated it.

I absolutely love the Highland Park 18, sherry with a bit of Orkney Peat, however it's not everyone's choice of whisky. I had the Bottega bottling of the Highland Park last night and that was amazing, well worth the R115 for 25ml. Everyone has their own taste and preference and that evolves over years.
Edit, I last tasted is about 4 years ago so the taste could have changed, I could stand to be corrected.

I like peated sherry cask drams as much as the next malt man. Ardbeg Uigeadail and Lagavulin are lovely. I just found the Highland Park to be repulsive. As always YMMV

Took me a while to get used to the Islay peat.

You this is where you need to make a distinction between "bad" Whisky and Whisky that YOU don't like.

It's not the same thing.

HP 18yo is a great Whisky that get's 4 to 5 star reviews from experts and consumers world wide.

You this is where you need to make a distinction between "bad" Whisky and Whisky that YOU don't like.

It's not the same thing.

HP 18yo is a great Whisky that get's 4 to 5 star reviews from experts and consumers world wide.

To me it did taste bad...almost as if it was off or rotten. Maybe it was a bad bottle?

Or contaminated? Who's bottle was it?

The Adega at Bryanston has the Dalmore Cigar Malt at a very reasonable price. So we finished the open bottle and then they brought out another bottle. Colour variation was massive between the 2.

Was a PNP liquor purchase if I remember correctly. Maybe it was just a bad bottle. I have read that Highland Park have had some major quality control issues.

My Whisky purchases are based on extensive research and also going to many tastings, before making any purchase.

I don't base my purchases on pretty/wierd labels or a "sense of adventure."

So you're saying you've never had a bad tasting whiskey in the R900-odd range, implying that they don't really exist, but then say you only buy and drink whiskeys after careful research, presumably to ensure you don't get bad whiskeys.
My conclusion is that you're basically arguing for the sake of it.

My conclusion is that you are utterly confused re. the difference between a "bad whisky" and a "whisky that you don't like".

A bad whiskey will not survive in the market at the R900-odd range and and would be an extremely rare scenario.

Also using the words "implying" and "presumably" to summarize your opinion of me and my attitude regarding, and towards, whisky, indicates that you may be arguing for the sake of it.

The Grooves is nicer than Kelpie IMHO. I already have two bottles of Grooves. Wanted 3 for two reasons -I normally procure 3 bottles of the annual special release and with the grooves, three boxes placed together makes a pattern so looks nice on display...

I'll keep my eyes pealed for th Big Peat 2011-2013, I go into any bottle store that I drive by. Do you have the first or second batch of the Winter Storm? I didn't get them from Makro last year so I bought 2 bottles of batch 2 recently.
