whiskey brothers and you can get 100 off
Sold. Thanks. I'm getting that code and then ordering that combo with an Ardbeg 10YO. I'm busy making a sweet highland-style whisky so that'll have to do for light drinking (it's actually coming along really damn well).

EDIT: Balls. Seems I signed up to that thing before. Never bought from them but apparently no voucher for me. Yay.

OK managed to get by that stupid thingamabob. R100 voucher in, and whiskies ordered. That Bourbon Pack and the Ardbeg 10YO. Let's see how fast shipping really is!

I selected pick up and it was ready the next morning. delivery will be as quick as the courier and not really a WB issue.

Side question has anyone tasted langs whiskey, its available at makro and .well priced. I have had 2/3 and think they are very well priced and worth the 230 a bottle for a good drink

Part of the massive Ian Macleod stable of spirits...but that price? Wow, not sure what kind of quality can be involved?

I've had the rich and refined. Nothing to write home about, but they did go for 46% ABV rather than the bare minimum of 43. So there is that.

It's not talisker or highland Park but definitely better then bells or j&b. Price wise when Jameson caskmate launched or was 299 now it's 380. I drink what I like and try avoid overpriced marketing I walk away from that

I've had the Full and Smoky and Rich and Refined.

I gave the full and smokey away, it was just too bad, worse than famous grouse, maybe not as bad as Bell's. Not really full or smokey, just bitter oak. Don't know why J&B gets such a bad write up it's actually decent in comparison to this and actually just not bad at all...

Rich and refined on the other hand is actually quite passable, it's a bit bitey but flavourwise...I'd rather have it over Dalmore 18/Cigar Malt and it tastes similar enough (for me). It's not something I'll be replacing though.

We all drink what we like...nobody in this thread disputes that ever.

But cheap, kak Whisky is what it is...exactly that.

Good whisky is not just expensive due to
overpriced marketing

Gotta brag with my homemade whisky quickly. It's super harsh, VERY green and completely unbalanced so far, but hey, it's only 2 weeks old, so that's understandable. It's better than most cheap blended Scotch whiskies like Black & White already, yet it cost me about 1/3rd of the price to make (if not less). At 60% ABV it's really potent and really needs to sit for a while longer, but for the initial taste it's REALLY good. Rich, oaky and it's starting to really pick up the sweetness I want. Adding a drop of water opens it up a bit and actually seems to "improve" the body of the whisky. It tastes fuller and rounder to me, so I'm guessing I'll water it down to around 50% ABV when it comes to bottling.

So, a drop of water and a minute or so to marry. Wow. Really cleans up. There's not much nose, but what is there is alcohol with a floral hint. I don't know where the floral nose comes from, I was expecting more oak, but I guess that's part of the array of oaks I dumped in there. Flavour sweetens up a bit, and drops a lot of the toasty oak. Malt sugar, warm wood, with a dry finish.

This stuff has potential. I just have to stop "tasting" it all the time, and let it have it's time. Think I'll have to distill a few more litres so I can store a bit more bulk. Will make it easier.

@Toxxyc I think I missed it but can you point me to the post where you introduce/explain what you're doing boe? Looks interesting.

Oh I didn't post a thing about it. I just made whisky :D

I made a purpose-made wash with pale malt and a good dose of caramel malt (some funky belgian brand, I think). The resulting wash came in at 8% ABV, which I triple-distilled to 80% ABV. I then watered it down back to 60% ABV and oaked it, using medium+ toast American Oak that I bought, and also with French Oak I toasted and charred myself. I added a few fingers of each light, medium and heavy toast, as well as few slivers of ex-Rum oak that I charred (the smell was AMAZING when I charred this). I then let it sit on all of this oak for a week to get colour, and then pulled most of the oak (it was WAY too much). I left a tiny bit of American Oak in there, and it's now aging. The picture I posted is super early.

I'm strongly considering making a bunch more washes so I can fill up my glass jars with whisky on various oaks. I've got two 8-liter glass serving jar things that works well for this. I made a pretty wicked rum in there last week, and bottled it this week. So I want to fill it up with whisky :D

LOL. It's not like I can sell it. No licence. This is all just for myself. And friends. Oh goodness I had my friends drunk during the alcohol ban...

PS: That "lockdown brandies" and stuff some okes bought for R200 a bottle? I checked the other day, I made identical stuff for like R40 a bottle. And it takes a week, max

Neither me or the courier give a schit about a licence.

Listen Popcorn Sutton...where's the pics of your still etc??

LOL. True. I might be quite biased with my review though. So I'll just give my stuff a bit more time anyway.

:ROFL::ROFL: Google "very old pressure cooker" and imagine how my still looks, because that's what I built. Took an old pressure cooker, found that a 15mm compression fitting fits the hole in the lid perfectly and worked from there. It's inelegant, tiny and a pain in the ass but it works. I really need to work toward something bigger. It's a nightmare to distill so many batches all the time.
