First thing I smell is pineapple. There is smoke, but the peat is not coming through as much as I remember with the 2006. But then I'm no som

Well it's "sommelier" and a sommelier has fukall to do with Whisky.

Apart from that, it sounds like an awesome Whisky.
Loooooong day :)

What I remember the most about the 2006 was the subtle peat taste. Not getting it so much this time. Going to have to try the 2006 again to compare.

I'm going with grilled pinapple on the BBQ

Lekker I've got two unopened ones.
You're very lucky. I only have a sample...:crying:

I'm sitting with this in my basket now, ready to pre-order. Apparently the one to get from Diageo's latest 2020Special Releases. AND it's a Rum Cask....

But ROE and shipping and VAT & Duties = R 2 820..........:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:

I did a side by side of the 2006 and 2007 on Friday night, 2007 is much stronger. Surprisingly I only got Pineapple on the 2006. Pretty damn happy with the 2007 release, feels way more punchy. The grassy peat is very present. Will see what happens when the 2007 opens up a bit. Still a favourite.

I'd just wait the extra long period it takes for South Africa to get these, will likely end up being 1100~ here.

It is extremely unlikely that it will ever get here due to limited releases.

And I seriously doubt something that costs GBP 74 excl. VAT retail in Europe, will cost R1 100 in South Africa.

https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/51715/cragganmore-2006-12-year-old-special-releases-2019 was available here for R1400 and £85 in the UK.

So yes I got the number a bit wrong but you're still likely looking at around R1400 prices unless Diageo decides to stop sending us special releases (possible, unfortunately). I remember the previous years 8yo Talisker was on checkers shelves (weird) for around R900 and retailed at £73. NGF this year had incredible pricing on the special releases, I doubt we'll see things that good but still there's an ok chance.

The bottle in that link you posted, is GBP 70...not GBP 85. So R1400 would make sense if distro price to SA is taken into consideration.

We've seen time and time again that we in SA is seen as the arse end of the Whisky market by certain distilleries like Ardbeg and Laphroaig. If you want special releases, you mostly have to go and get it yourself.

Even place like Whisky Brother, voted best online retailer of the year world wide, gets the finger from Ardbeg...

I compared prices including VAT in the UK.

Diageo are quite a bit bigger and JW has a pretty solid market here. £70 would be R1400 without any taxes, import duties etc. That is to say SA gets the special releases at a steal.

What Ardbeg does is purely country allocation based on sales of the Ardbeg Ten. Must say RGBC has made some serious mistakes e.g. the recent post from WhiskyBrother on Wee Beastie stock allocation.
