Rather buy a Single Malt...Ardbeg 10, Ardbeg An Oa, Laphroaig etc.Not bad either.
I don't ever believe ODO retail. Apparently yuppiechef if you get your whisky there haha https://www.yuppiechef.com/the-comp...pass-Box-The-Peat-Monster-Scotch-Whisky-750ml
Ah thanks for the input, Laphroaig is great had a good couple bottles but Ill be honest my experience with Ardbeg is like a tasting or two. Definitely on my next in line to purchase list. My last was an aberlour 18 (gift) only complaint is the 500ml, otherwise that was an amazing bottle.Rather buy a Single Malt...Ardbeg 10, Ardbeg An Oa, Laphroaig etc.
Compass Box does blend some good Whisky...but this isn't one of them.
If you like peat....buy Arbeg 10 and be amazed forever.Ah thanks for the input, Laphroaig is great had a good couple bottles but Ill be honest my experience with Ardbeg is like a tasting or two. YC is definitely "cooking" the prices, yes.Cooking whisky?

I think I was just lucky.I wasn't a big peat guy when I started off with whiskies. It was overwhelming for me. I've grown into it a few years ago though and now I can't get enough. Yes, peated whiskies are, for the most part, more expensive than other expressions. I've been trying to taste a bunch of options whenever I can, and I keep coming back to Ardbeg 10 as the "benchmark". It's not cheap, but it's just the best value for money and I think it's daft to not have a bottle in your pantry if you like peat. As simple as that.
I'm sure that there's some Samaritans on here that can organize you some samples. It might be odd here, but I haven't ever tasted Laphroaig. I got started when a whisky dude gave me a dram of Ardbeg 10 many moons ago, and that's the flavour I've liked. I really should get me some Laphroaig...
If you're in JHB, maybe @Quad or @Luben can organise you some samples?Same, same. I've seen the Laphroaig Select is a cheap peat, but I've heard some negative things from it, which is why I've never bought it. I know peat is a very subjective flavour (for example, I can't stand the peat in Three Ships 10YO), so I'd love to give it a shot first. I'll trade someone - I don't have much, but I have a little bit![]()
Funny a quite like the select, not as good as the 10 but for the money hard to beat. I remember from the tasting I did was a blend of Quarter Cask, Triple Wood and the 10 maybe the PX cant remember everything.Same, same. I would LOVE a sample. I'd return the favour, as I mentioned. There's not much that I have, but I have a tiny bit of Dalwhinnie 15YO and also a tiny bit of Blanton's Gold left if that's something they'd be willing to trade for...
Like I said, I've never tasted it. I heard some people calling it very "medicinal" which I'm not THE biggest fan of, but I guess it'll depend on how it balances with the rest of the flavours. That's the big reason I haven't dumped any money into it.
