tastes like turps to me

:D

What is your regular choice in everyday and fancy whiskies?

I pretty much drink any whisky, but my everyday is Famous Grouse, Jameson's or Jack and fancy sipping' whisky is Glenfiddich 15 y.o. Solara Reserve.

Jameson
Bushmills
Tullamore Dew
The Wild Geese

Nope...hate the peat taste.

I'm not a big fan either to be fair. I stay away from the smoky/peaty types although I got a bottle of Laphroaig for Christmas last year and I kind of warmed to it as the bottle went down :)

Tonight I have tried several whiskies never have tasted. Monkey Shoulder and Woodford Reserve were the best. Sadly Three Ships 5yo was not to my liking.

This was my third Fnb Whisky Live and probably the best. Still haven't tried a Japanese whisky. Taiwanese last year was

American Bourbon and Tennessee were nice alternatives to Scottish or Irish variants.

Glenmorangie Quinta Ruan was the most fragrant. Cannot go wrong with this.

Until next year!

I know :(
Wife is pregnant, so as long as she can't drink, I don't drink (my choice). Been "on the wagon" for the last 3, nearly 4 months.
Would have loved to have gone though.

Tried that too, both time the SO was pregnant. Failed big time.

I've been drinking Grant's Whisky the last couple of months, been stumbling on a lot of specials. Wonder why they're on special so much.....actually, I'm not complaining.

I love a JW red with alittle still water. i find tap water makes it course.
Otherwise everything else is neat, no water, no ice.
Has anybody tried black bottle?

@thefred, Black Bottle isn't too bad. A little peaty, but I enjoyed it the last time I savoured a dram.

Today is the final day of the FNB Whisky Festival. Held at the Sandton Convention centre, Friday's expo will be seriously packed, so get there early. Limited amounts of Japanese whiskey, the drink of choice this year for whisky fans, is available, so perhaps focus on the Scottish and Irish.

I looked last night but couldn't find anything Japanese. Pity.

Jameson
Bushmills
Tullamore Dew
The Wild Geese

This echoes my own taste. Tullamore's my personal everyday choice, with Greenore 8yr-old being the "one-step up".

Of the single malts, the heavy peat of Lagavullin, Laphroaig (TCP's closest relative), etc, doesn't do anything for me, although Ardbegh is palatable. Macallan Amber has a lovely honeyed smoothness also.

No it's actually going well, but believe me, I'm looking forward to toasting "the one that got away" in a couple of months :-)
