Had dram or two tonight. Nothing special. But it went down well.

BTW, has anyone tried Whiskey Stones before?

Friend has them, works as advertised.

Personally I'm not a fan. If you're drinking something where you're worried about dulling the flavor and want to be using stones then making it cold is going to have the same effect.

It was delicious.

Also had a good amount of Peat Monster.
I expected more smoke, but it was really more iodine/sea water.

My mother is moving house, and while packing found an unopened bottle of Glendronach 12 year old (the bottle is probably more than 20 years old, pity it doesn't mature in glass).

Will open it in a couple weeks and feed back.

Any Highland Park fans?

Their standard range is pretty decent, the Valhalla Collection however is exceptional.

Even so, an older bottle is usually something special. Something that's been in the bottle for 20 years+ will more often than not have been in superior casks and generally have better quality of spirit. A good example of this would be all the distilleries that have moved to bull**** NAS bottlings with more effort put into marketing than product (here's looking at you Macallan), where the older non-NAS releases were far superior.

While it doesn't mature in the bottle, some do hold the belief that an extended period of time in the bottle can "smooth the edges" a little bit.

Had a taste of the Laphroaig and it was...interesting. Reminded me of Gentleman Jack in some way. Not sure its a taste I could get used to...its very...heavy. But will try it again before passing final judgement. It was the 12yr old.
