most bottle stores stock behind the counter but don't expect a huge variety

Best bang for buck imho is to find a place that does whisky tasting. You'll get introduced to a wider variety of whiskies which will help you narrow down what it is you like.

Cheapest and sweetest goes to Two Keys!

Never see two keys before.
Maybe was just never looking. So many brands out there.
Will give this a try for a quick daily shot.. :)

I opened a bottle of Ballantines that was in the cupboard for a couple years.
Like poison.

I'm not going to browse through this whole thread.

Which the best sub R200 bottle of whiskey?

Also, which is better - Bells or Jameson?

Yes, poison it is......
There are more aged Ballantines whiskey available, at a price offcourse.

Im sure most guys here will prefer Jameson to Bells.
For me it really is no contest. Jameson wins.
Although I started out by drinking Bells, I realised this too was getting like poison to me

As for the best sub R200 I would say Johnny Walker red or J&B. Though for R20 more you could get Bushmills, which is much much much better

Although just over R200 my pick would be Bains. Next step Jameson Select Reserve but comes with a price jump...

Been thinking about what to get next too in about the same price range.

I'll see your Select Reserve and raise you a Johnnie Walker Black Label. This whisky is really growing on me. Time to wait for a makro special.

why would you recommend that someone drinks horse piss?

I think in all honesty, apart from a Danish whisky that tasted like tar, I've yet to find a whisky that wasn't drinkable. If it's not nice straight, add soda. Simples.

Lol

Whats good under R200 then? I have not tasted much of the variety yet.
Someone mentioned Two Keys a couple days ago.

You are not serious are you? Jameson Select Reserve is by far better tasting than JW Black. But that might be just my taste :)
