Jah, but at 80-90 pounds? I'd rather buy whoever is travelling a bottle of their own. :)
Yeah I only saw that now sorry about that. Will let you know if someone is travelling to the UK soon

Got an email from Checkers Liquor.
They launched their own Private Barrel Co. label.
Basically sourcing single malts from Scotland mainly, and ensuring they are all single casks.
Various distilleries brands on offer.

Went to Fourways Checkers Liquor today but they didnt have stock in as yet.
Anyone tried a whiskey from this Private Barrel Co?

They have done that for a while. Probably just launching a new batch.

I bought one in the past and it turned out to be pretty decent and well priced. Some of them can be pretty pricey though.

Lagavulin 16 is generally dubbed one of the best peated whiskey.
It does have a medicinal odour and taste but goes down very well.

The Tallisker 10 is 2nd to the Lag16. This is what I read.

Better than Laphroig?

I have not tasted Laphroig, but apparently its quite strong in terms of smoke, peat and that medicinal flavour.
Lagavulin is less so. Easier on the pallate

Who's going to the whisky festival?
Starts tonight I think.
Can sample a few there

After Madam Zingara last night I need to take it easy for the next few nights, else my liver will start to complain :)

Just got back from another wonderful event. So many truly beautiful whiskies tasted. I avoided the Taiwanese stuff; that stuff is pure swill! Bunnahabhain 18 year old was really good. Woodford Reserve also good. I didn't go to those I tried last year, such as Glenmorangie or Bains. A wonderful time. Next year I go in my kilt! Och Aye!

Edit: I sleep well ton! :p

Enjoyed the Bunnahabhain as well, have to admit though the festival isn't what it used to be in its early days, seems much more commercialised and dominated by the big boys

Didn't go this year because previous years seemed to be worse than the year before. Makro in silver lakes have had a whiskey tasting event for free, but I haven't scored a repeat invite. So usually wild about whiskey in dullstroom if I want to sample a few
