I dont get the obsession with Monkey Shoulder. Everyone in my whisky club has tasted it blind and thinks its the worst whisky ever. We seem to think we may have had a bad bottle (if that happens) but we not prepared to waste money on another to find out if that was the case.

Don't know if about it being a bad batch but which other ones did you taste it against?

My thoughts are that compared to aged or named variants it will not compare BUT vs your standard Jameson etc it is similar. At that price point it's a slightly different proposition for an everyday easy drink.

Well my friends and I have set up a little whisky tasting club. So every month we taste an expensive whisky and a cheaper whisky. So on the cheap side, we have done:
3 ships 5yo, 3 ships bourbon, Paddys, Bains, Bushmills, Checkers Piravete lable 41, Tomatin, Scottish Leader, Chivas 12, GlenGrant, Jameson cask mates, Kilbeggan. Not to mention all the stuff we have privately.
So pretty sure we have put it up in a fair fight.

Yeah its more of an excuse for the boys to get together than anything else. Just thought we would add some sophistication to it with Whisky....yeah the wheels usually come off if the whisky is good cause we finish both bottles.
Haha perhaps. We still have the bottle. We keep it as our strafdop when someone arrives late.

Ended up buying a bottle of Ardberg 10 year with a 50ml Uigeadial taster included. Will be trying it tonight. Thanks for the suggestions.

I hope you like peaty Whisky. Both are incredible though. Single shot in a tumbler. Two teaspoons of water ( I use ice water ) and let it stand for 2 minutes.

Then be amazed....

After tasting, drink with ice and or water. Don't worry about the "rules".

This^

Though I try have a taste before adding water just to compare. It IS harsh with no water but different strokes - you will find what works for you
