What an experience! VERY different from what I've had before, but delicious. I really like the Ardberg. I don't think it will be my regular "get home from work and relax" whisky, but I'm glad I bought it and have a bottle waiting for when I desire the smokey flavours it does so well.

Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah the peatier ones don't do well as an everyday drink, once in a while will do. But you made a big jump and happy it's worked out. Welcome to the peat bog :-)

Welcome!

Next up laphroaig 10 & quarter cask
Lagavulin 16.

I am personally unable to enjoy a peaty whisky such as Ardberg, Laphroaig etc, I find it revolting.

In other news, I managed to find a bottle of Black Bottle whisky but the previous glass bottle which I think I will keep.

I've found with the last you either love it or can't stand. Not many in the middle. Only ever had one bottle of the black bottle and I enjoyed it...

Off to Dullstroom in a few weeks and keen to get some *Interesting* whiskeys.. any suggestions?

If you're tasting stuff and they have it try the springbank cask strength burgundy finish. Real oddball whisky. Springbank is on my list for some exploration.

Had the lagavulin 12 yet?
They may also have the caol ila unpeated.

Same here. I'm looking for the Springbank 11yo Local Barley and Springbank 13yo Green. I love having Whisky that is basically the exact opposite of the peaty stuff as variation.

Very difficult to get Springbank stock here in SA at the moment.

My suggestion if you really a whisky lover, talk to the guys there about what you like and what you have tried before. They will come up with a personalized tasting for you. Dont do the standard selections of the menu unless something really grabs you. If you new to whisky and just there for the experience then pick off the list. Oh and dont taste stuff you have already had, that's just a waste.
A few year ago they gave me some whisky produced in Nelspruit. Its called twee dronk oh my sak it was probably the best whisky i have ever had, i bought a bottle and it didnt last long. Never been able to find it again or any info oh where to buy it.

Has anybody tried the Checkers Private Barrel No 68 12 YO?
My dad got given a bottle at some golf thing but he is not a drinker so it's coming my way soon.

Love the stuff. Smooth and easy on the palate. Its got a slight hint of smokiness. I would liken it to something between Jameson & Johnny Black.
