Thanks for the info. Tbh never really looked at the Private Barrel collection, not because I looked down on it but because there isn't really that much information about them out there.

I like to see what the reviewers say, what the disitller says and then compare it to what I can tase myself. Sometimes a lot of what the reviews say I can't find in the taste, and sometimes a "bad" whiskey I find really enjoyable.

Will compare what the bottle says with your description and see how they line up. And if it really is like you say the I might just get another bottle or two for the collection. Think the local Checkers still has a couple of bottles.

How much does it go for?
 
The 12yo was R349 last I checked, but they don't disclose the distillery. The other ones vary upward in price but you'll see the distillery name on the bottle. There is usually some info on the checkers site for each bottling.

I've bought the 41 and the 68 and am happy with both. Good value IMO.

I quite like the 68, not a fan of the 41. Next up in the price range is the Mortlach 14, very good bottle of whisky but very difficult to find.

If I recall correctly they where R280 or there about. Will check Friday to confirm when I go to pass my dad's place to pickup the bottle.
There was some other bottle around R700 also but not sure what it was.

Will see what else they have in store. The write-ups about the Benrinnes 15, Mortlach 14 & BenRiach 17 sounds interestig.
Anybody tried the Benrinnes or BenRiach?

Luckily there are 4 Checkers Liquor stores within 5km of home so can go and see what the others have this weekend.

I've got myself the another bottle of the Glen Grant 17, the first went down exceptionally well. That's worth a look at even though it doesn't keep with the traditional Glen Great bottlings.

Is that at Checkers Liquor? I know where I'm stopping... That's Glen Grant prices for a 12YO!

Any recommendations on the Loch Lomond? She the prices aren't that bad.
 
If you like grain whisky like Bains then their single grain will be right up your alley. I find the signature is good enough for drinking neat or with a dash of water. The single malt has a faint hint of peat and I really enjoy it. The reserve is only good with water.

I bought a bottle the other day and it's pleasantly good. I think between Bains and LL I would go for the Bains first and LL second.

That said it is a nice whiskey that I am thoroughly enjoying

After reading all this, I think I'll steer clear. Bains is schit.
