Did anybody else receive the info re. Ardbeg Kelpie that has become available in South Africa in very limited amounts?
Named after the kelpie, a legendary water demon said to live in the Atlantic Ocean, off the Islay coast, the new expression is the first Ardbeg whisky matured in Black Sea oak casks.
Sourced from the Adyghe Republic in Russia by Dr Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg’s director of distilling, whisky creation and whisky stocks, the casks are said to impart ‘incredibly deep flavours’ to the whisky, which is then married with traditional Ardbeg, aged in ex-Bourbon barrels. Nonchillfiltered and bottled at 46%.
Expect oily peat, dark chocolate, smoked fish, hints of seaweed, a peppery mouthfeel followed by treacle toffee.

Cool name, cool story, but if you've only had the 10 then maybe buy the Uigeadail first?
Always so much temptation when something new comes out.
Well you can't really compare Bains to Chivas or JW Black. They go for R300+ a bottle. Bains is R220 which brings it closer to the Bells and JW Red class.Chivas or JW Black.
Have done both those as well as the Corryvreckan, so I'm sure that Kelpie will not be a shock or a disappointment. These are the kind of flavours I love.

The question put to me was: "What is your cheaper day to day Whisky". So it's all relative. I think Bains is crap. When not drinking Single Malt, I drink Chivas or JW Black as my day to day.
I am VERY interested to hear how that tastes. Bunnhabahain is something from the gods

So another Friday night turned into a whiskey tasting . The idea was to just compare the Jamesons Select Reserve with the Caskmate and the very rare Connamara peated single malt . ( the only Irish peated single malt) . But we NEVER stick to 2 or 3 ..![]()

He is my neighbour. ..
So are you and morkhans the same person or in the same Whisky tasting group? That pic of the Cruach-Mhona looks very familiar and for a reasonably rare tipple, that is a hell of a coincidence.

How did the Checkers Private Barrel go down in your tasting? So another Friday night turned into a whiskey tasting .
