So I got me a bottle of the signature today. Very very impressed. Shared it with a few of my jameson die hards and it was well received. Definitely worth trying.

Found a bottle of No. 68 today. Loch Lomond and MyBroadBand Pinotage for scale

So I'll be going to the UK for a while and since your recommendations were so good before I'd like to ask for some advice on what to get at Heathrow duty free liquor store on my way home, that is great value for the price(since the no tax thing is so nice). Give me your best picks please:D

Bring us back a few bottles, phoenix99 ;)

Ai, I was so looking forward to tasting the No. 68 tonight but it seems I have been afflicted with a migraine and somehow I think having a double along with four Adcodols is not a very good idea

There is no better painkiller than whisky:whistle:

Whoa there boy, I want to remember the rest of the evening thankyouverymuch :D

@VikashLurker,
LL single grain is quite nice, easy on the palate and goes down well with a few lumps of ice. I tried it once neat with no ice but it didn't sit well with me. I prefer my drink chilled, although some might disagree and say it spoils the flavour.

Side by side with the Bains I would say the Bains has a smokier, peatier taste to me and the LL definitely goes down smoother although I found both enjoyable. LL would be my go to drink before a meal while the Bains I would classify (personally) to be more an after-meal drink, a dessert whiskey if you will :D

Ive read that it might be a bit flat hence I opted for the signature instead. I will be trying out the single malt and reserve next.

I reckon you should compare signature to bains instead. You will be pleasantly surprised. Let us know your thoughts on the No. 68 when you get a chance to taste it.

Against my better judgement I threw myself a tumbler of No. 68:

First impressions are a slightly spicy, bitter whiskey when compared with Bains and Loch Lomond Single Grain. There is quite a smokey aftertaste, and I liken it to the feeling you get when you step into a cigar lounge, with a taste that lingers and sits in the back of your throat. Much smokier than the Bains.

Still, not a bad whiskey by any measure. That said, I should perhaps try again tomorrow night when I have less paracetamol and codeine iin my system in case the results are skewed :p

I like Bains and think I should go with the Loch Lomond next time.

The High Commissioner from the same distillery is my cheap shot at home and I enjoy it a lot. I like the sweeter taste.
