Guys, I urgently need some help here. I was given the nice task of sourcing a special bottle of whisky for a very important staff member at the office. I was told budget is not an issue, so we're looking at R10k~R20k, from my initial questions.

I'm specifically trying to find a bottle that was distilled in 1991, since it's a special year for said member, but I have no idea where to look.

To boot, I'm on a timeline - I need it in office in JHB, delivered and all, latest Thursday morning.

Anyone know such a bottle I can find?

Personally I would be rather getting a selection of bottles for that kind of budget rather than blowing it on a single bottle, but that's just me. There are some nice whiskies to be found in the R1000-R2000 range. Also more likely to be opened and enjoyed rather than sitting in the bar as a showpiece.

Doesn't matter anyway anymore, really, they decided on something else for him. Eh. Was kinda excited to blow R20k on whisky :D
 
I have a spare bottle or two of PBC JSD 6yo which I will be putting up in the classified section.

too late, bottle arrived just now.

It's actually not too bad - the flavours are OK, but it's a bit rough around the edges, definitely not very refined.

But for that price it's not bad at all, one could use it for cocktails and such.

At R379 there's definitely better to be had at that price. As school fees, I've paid more to taste a whisky.

I've described it as young and hot, but not in a good way.....My wife more aptly described the young and hot as 'child labour in a sweat shop'

It's got great potential for a cocktail, the nose opens up after a few minutes but I can't palate it neat.
 
Whiskey Collection for sale

Greetings fellow whiskey lovers!

I know I should post this in the classifieds section but I don's seem to have enough street cred.. So here goes.

I'm selling my much loved whiskey collection :( Some single malts, bourbons, and a really nice Ron Zappa rum!

Most are either half or more full and all bought less than 9 months ago. Full bottles retail at about R5000. Yours for R1750. PM me if interested.

Guys, I know it's not whisky but I can't find a suitable thread to ask this on... I'm looking for The Kraken rum. A few years ago it was available around SA here and there for pretty good prices even (I bought two bottles at something silly like R99 each from Makro), and now it's gone. It's one of the most enjoyable rums I've had ever, and I am dying to get my hands on a bottle again. There are places that will import, but I'm not paying their premium prices... :(
