Guys, I know it's not whisky but I can't find a suitable thread to ask this on... I'm looking for The Kraken rum. A few years ago it was available around SA here and there for pretty good prices even (I bought two bottles at something silly like R99 each from Makro), and now it's gone. It's one of the most enjoyable rums I've had ever, and I am dying to get my hands on a bottle again. There are places that will import, but I'm not paying their premium prices... :(
I know this is an old post, but I was in Bootleggers in Fourways this afternoon and saw they have The Kraken rum in stock. Yes, it's expensive, but it seems like The Kraken went with it and bottled some more at 47% ABV. That means it's the "good" batches. It's pricey, was around R450 a bottle, but my dudes it's worth it!

Help!

After trying Balvenie 12 yr. I cannot handle anything else...

Anything else either gives me a lekker babalas or heat burn...

And now. I'm broke. (or trying to save more really) so cannot afford it...

Any other suggestions please?

Isn't Balvenie one of the main components of Monkey Shoulder?

Maybe try that.

"from William Grant’s three Speyside distilleries: Balvenie, Glenfiddich and Kininvie. "

The highlight of that Balvenie is the Sherry cask, it's unfortunate that most Sherry cask influenced whisky is more expensive than their Bourbon cask cousins.

Maybe try the Glen Scotia double cask, wait until Checkers have their World Whisky Day discount at the end of May and you'll pick it up for a song.

The Only Whisky Show tickets are now available on WhiskyBrother website. I'm going on the Friday night.

This is the only whisky show you will ever need to attend.

Apart from Wade Bale's .......

It would be interesting to hear from someone who has attended both. I see from the event site that the Wade Bale's show included wine where The Only Whisky Show is all about the whisky. Last year there was well over 200 whiskies to be tasted with quite a few rare and limited bottlings. A fellow Cape Town whisky enthusiast friend is flying up just to attend - 2nd year in a row.

I've been to 2 Wade Bale's events and the wine does not detract from the Whisky selection at all.

I would of course alos love to attend The Only Whisky Show and nearly flew up once myself. It definitely has a bigger selection to taste from what I hear.

The whisky list is published prior to the event so it's a good idea to select what you would like to try and head to those first. It's probably a good idea to then leave the event. I still feel sorry for the poor Goodfellas driver who had the misfortune of driving me home last year

I've been attending both, go to the Wade Bales event on the Thursday, Friday is to busy with drunk people and you can't chat with the Brand Ambassadors. The Wade Bales is well worth the price of the ticket especially if you buy the early bird ticket.

I'm attending Wade Bales on Thursday and The only whisky event on Friday. See u guys there.

So tempted

I'm a big fan of the Three Ships range. Anyone going to Wade Babes Cape Town to tell me what the special offering is? Hopefully it's not the Bains 15, already got that.
