The one I have here is September 2006. I also just discovered the the cork doesn't seal. Have to store it upright. Way to go, Three Ships!

I'm not a fan of corks and would much prefer whisky produces used screw tops (as with the Bains 15). I know it's the 'popping of the cork' and the 'tradition' but really it's a headache because it means whisky has to be stored upright.

Haven't yet had a bad cork experience with a Three Ships bottling (yet) but manufacturing faults happen with everything. My Big Peat 2018 cork broke the other day lol.

I must also say this is the first whisky cork I've encountered that actually leaks. My cabinet at work smells like whisky now.

I've tried Jim Beam, Wild Turkey, Makers Mark and Woodford Reserve but my favourite still is the Buffalo Trace, I can drink that stuff by the bucket I swear. Really smooth and cheap (R270 per bottle), not sure what you will pay that side though

Funnily enough that is what I have arriving today. Along with some bitters and some oranges (for orange peel) so that I can make Old Fashioneds.

I will however have the bourbon neat to try it out, at least at first.

Old Fashioned is basically the best drink in the world.

Had some at our office Christmas party, really liked it!

What is your recipe?

I make the basic one that I got from Cocktail Chemistry, although instead of a sugar cube I add a maraschino cherry. Sometimes I'll add a cinnamon stick as well. When I really feel like desecrating the bourbon I'll fill up the glass with some tonic/ginger beer :whistling:

Birthday present. That makes 22 unique Glenfiddich bottlings in my collection.

Recommendations for a good, cheap bourbon besides Jack Daniels (technically a Tennessee whiskey I know)?

Cheap because I already have Laphroaig and Johnnie Walker Black, I want something a little cheaper for the cold English winter. Jim Beam Black Label?

Loving bourbons at the moment, picked up a bottle of this for R199 at Liquor City, little rough around the edges but a little water opens it up worth every cent. Also a big fan of Buffalo Trace and the Rittenhouse is just heaven in a bottle but Bottega is sold out.

Anyone have any Bourbon recommendations in the R600-R800 bracket?

Here u tried some rye whisky. Sazerac rye is awesome and it's in your price range. Whiskybrother has some Knob Creek rye as well last time I was there. I quite like the standard Knob Creek as well.

My understanding is that you should always store whisky upright. It's not like wine. Too much interaction with the Cork is bad as the high ABV will eat the Cork.

The Rittenhouse is a rye, thanks for the suggestions that Sazerac Rye looks like one to try for sure

Bought this at duty free to drink on my island holiday along with a litre of Bains.

The only tasting notes you’re getting out of me is that it is utterly delicious. So much so that I’m probably going to pick up 2 bottles at the coming back duty free when we return to ORT. And is R399 for a litre.

Edit - in fact, the tasting notes are on the front label because you get layers and layers of sweetness (demarera, butterscotch, creme brulee) along with fruit salad. Loving it.

Enjoy your holiday, it sounds delish. You had me at butterscotch and creme brulee.

Picked up the Sazerac from NGF for R549 and it's great thank you

Need to add to my collection. Ardbeg or Laphroig? Also, what is the best bang for buck Jura?

Thanks
