The name Vodka, indicates very specific origins and ingredients. So you cannot say that Whisky, brandy, gin etc. are al types of vodkas.Actually, it's distilled from a fermented, alcoholic wash made with the above, so it's pretty much vodka, just like whisky, brandy, gin, etc. are all types of vodkas before being finished (using spices, infusions, botanicals, woods and more). Remember vodka is basically ethanol and water. But yes, not to distract from this thread.
I'll start referring to it as "clear spirit" then. Vodka can be made from a ton of ingredients (traditionally potatoes but modern, good vodkas are made from grains, for the most part), but OK. Clear spirit is probably safer. The name Vodka, indicates very specific origins and ingredients. So you cannot say that Whisky, brandy, gin etc. are al types of vodkas.
That is not correct. All spirits are ethanol and water before being finished, yes. But vodka cannot be indicated as a generic term for all these different distillates.

he has uige.. ended up with the Morangie signet which I found on his wishlistThe Ardbeg Corryvrekan and Uigeadail and you'll have some change. You'll also find the Octomore 7.1 in that price range, I'd rather go for both Ardbegs though.
Morangie SignetAh nice. Let us know what you went with.
If you keep it out of direct sunlight, and keep the lid or cork on, it lasts really long.Hey guys, quick question. How long will whiskey be fine for once opened the searching turned up 6months - 2 years?
Is this correct?
A long, long time. The headspace is more important. Generally, once the bottle gets down to about 1/3rd, it's time to get it finished up, otherwise you're risking oxidation.Hey guys, quick question. How long will whiskey be fine for once opened the searching turned up 6months - 2 years?

Highland Park 10 year old (Viking Scars)OK I have a 10 year anniversary coming up. Getting a 10 year old Single Malt to celebrate it with seems like the right thing to do.
Suggestions that won't break the bank (R500 - R600)?
A bit harsh and unbalanced for my palate, but not a terrible dram.Highland Park 10 year old (Viking Scars)

If you're willing to pay for stuff that you cannot get here in SA, then yes it is.I've seen Master of Malt mentioned on here a few times. Between the delivery fee and customs duties, is it actually worth it ordering from the UK?
