Hey guys about to book my whiskey tasting at Bains, there are 5 whiskys are they 15mlX5 or 30mlX5. Little concerned about driving after 5x30ml >_< Assuming I can just ask them to pour less?

Pretty sure it's 15ml, I would suggest not driving but it isn't an area that gets a lot of ubers (had to drive around but was staying the night in Wellington) . At the very least you should go somewhere close for lunch.

Also don't assume 5x if you're enthusiastic you may get more haha!

I’m not sure if it’s just my Checkers in Hermanus, but they have the special right now that when you buy 2 xJW Black, you get a free bottle of JW White Walker. They scan 2 x black and the WW scans as a minus and the end result is that they charge you R625 for all 3.

ODO had a similar special the other day for A song of fire + A song of ice and you get the white waker for free. Vile stuff, that white walker.
 
Well, any bottle they recommend you store in the freezer and call "whisky" isn't really shining with confidence, so you really only have yourself to blame if you taste it thinking "maybe this will be great".

Well, I had some way back when, and concluded I wouldn't buy it for myself- I don't really have the exposure or taste that some others in this thread have- not by a long shot, and even to me and my cheapo whiskey taste, it was not worth it. I bought the three because I was curious about the other two bottles, and the price was decent all things considered. Not my proudest purchase but ya... I just don't recall WW being that f***ing vile the first time round.

Yeah, fair enough. We all have different tastes and likes. This thread even had a discussion on coke the other week and some folk also like ice in their single malts. No two people are the same I guess and I’m not a fussy whisky drinker. I’ll drink any old schit usually. But I have to say I found that this WW was nice and light and easy drinking on its own. No water or ice required for me.

Anyway, Johnny Walker red label is the worst of the lot imo and Winston Churchill lived on it. Each to their own I say :)

Agreed, we all have different tastes. It's what makes it great. My post wasn't aimed at you (if it seemed that way). It was more of a reply to both you and Toxxyc.
 
To be honest, I've never tasted a single whisky that was really vile. Bad, even. I like whisky. Some are better, but if you ask me, they're all lekker.
 
The only whisky so far I can't stand is Scottish leader signature (blue). Could not handle the synthetic "fake" peat taste.

I'm an advocate for bang for buck whisky as well as premium stuff. There is an occasion for both. Ice in the cheap stuff, yeah why not. My single malts probly only a dash of water if it helps to open up the flavours.

The Ardbeg Blaaack Committee release actually sold for GBP 94.....o_O

That is an absolute steal....all sold out of course already and even as a member of the Ardbeg Committee, since I live in South Africa, I cannot buy directly off of the Ardbeg website anyway.

Frustrating as fuk, especially when you see other Committee Releases selling for between R6k and R8k here in SA.

Yeah. Actually not badly priced at all. How that gets to R5k upwards locally is just pure profiteering.
 
Great deal on MoM...their flash sales are really excellent.

The sold the GOT Lagavulin and the GOT Tallisker for R 473 the other day!
