I would LOVE a sample. I'd return the favour, as I mentioned. There's not much that I have, but I have a tiny bit of Dalwhinnie 15YO and also a tiny bit of Blanton's Gold left if that's something they'd be willing to trade for... :D

Like I said, I've never tasted it. I heard some people calling it very "medicinal" which I'm not THE biggest fan of, but I guess it'll depend on how it balances with the rest of the flavours. That's the big reason I haven't dumped any money into it.

I am likley the odd one out - I am a peat guy, but find very little love for Laph - aside from a certain 17YO Murray McDavid bottling.........

I'd really recommend adding a drop of water to almost all whiskies. It's not just about diluting, but there's a chemical reaction that takes place when you add water, releasing a lot of flavours. I like to pour my whisky, then sip it neat for a bit. Then I usually let it sit, sipping again (following the 1 minute per year rule, in most cases). After that, I like to add a drop of ice cold water, but literally like half a teaspoon, let it develop and then enjoy it further. Gives me 3 tastes of the same whisky in the same dram.

I used to drink my Whisky with 1 block of ice, but recently stopped and only drink it neat. Cask strength I add a few drops of water and wait for the magic to happen.

The problem with this is that I would get quite drunk when spending a whole afternoon and evening drinking like this, especially if we are a few people together and want to taste up to 12 different Whiskys during a social setting like a braai or having people over for dinner.

So I always have a glass of water standing next to my tumbler as well. Having big sips of water in between sips of Whisky, gives you the best of both worlds: you enjoy all the flavors without getting hammered and falling into the fire...

Depends.

If I'm drinking say Bourbon while braaing I have an ice tray that makes huge square blocks. Sometimes those store bought ice cubes can ruin it totally. Especially those "fluffy" ones and to me they taste funny :cautious:

I never put ice with the good stuff though.

Have yet to master the adding a few drops of water thing :)

I can't do more than 4 or 5 whisky tastings before I start getting "beyond the ability to be responsible".
