Nope she will not be able to send you anything.

She may bring stuff with, within her allowance though...I think 5 liters.

But that will have to be declared and taxes and duties paid on it when landing in SA. But that is worth it for sure

Ah ok, will have to be selective when she comes down next. Also assume it is 5L per person, so her husband could also bring :p

Hopefully she can bring those Texas goodies...Balcones, Ironroot, Garrison Brothers.

Unfortunately these are mostly only available from the distillery itself.

Not easy...

P&P almost giving these away now

It's the only way they will get rid of them. I got half way through my bottle and really don't want anymore.

This product makes no sense, just buy a bottle of Select cut it down by half and you have same ABV and something that is drinkable for a lower price

You cannot compare it to a Whisky. It is an aperitif. The idea was to introduce a newer younger generation to the flavours of Whisky (ironically).

Might try and marinate some meat it is though

Ya I get that, but by the sounds of it they will be turning people away from whisky

Edit: don't waste the meat haha

I get I'm over the hill at 30 and not clued up about what they'd drink but... what younger generation is reaching for 'aperitifs'?

Maybe I'm a miserable sod but it just seems like they had a bad batch, decided to flavour it, cut it down for some extra profit, not label it 'whisky' and sell it.

Hehehe...interesting theory indeed.

I would have loved to be a fly against the wall in that marketing/production meeting.

As I have mentioned before: Andy admitted in a private chat on WA ( with a friend of mine, not me...) that he had absolutely nothing to do with this madness.

I personally think this is a black mark against the TS legacy and should have been released under another brand/name.

Maybe Andy should bottle and release the TS 21yo at the end of this year and then move on...he should be grabbed up and maybe look at a young, start up distillery in the UK somewhere.

Totally agree, odd decision. I fear once Andy leaves quality will go down there.

I would suggest buying one first and "test" it on your palette. Start with the Cooladine.

Waterford is not everybody's taste and you may be "stuck" with 3 bottles you do not enjoy or even do not like at all.
Financial literacy is not my strong point :p

You're talking about the Parliment not the Platinum. The Platinum was a South African special edition. At the time of that release, Glendronach/Benriach was partly owned by South Africans(66%)
I never knew that!

I just sourced and bought a 21 year old Parliament yesterday (2021 so it's apparently 26 years old). That was R2600. I really want to have a higher strength Glendronach but that price is a little bit too high. I'd rather take that money and put it toward the 1991, 30 year old release coming this/next month.

Adelphi's stuff is generally rather exceptional (although hard to get).

I bought a Tariquet XO Bas Armagnac earlier this year, I enjoy it, still in the brandy sphere of things but more enjoyable than Cognac for me, flavour is a lot closer to whisky but with a grapey influence. I have the Glen Moray 14 Sauternes Matured and that flavour profile is very close to the Tariquet XO Armagnac I have, you can still pick out the Glen Moray spirit but damn it might fool someone if watered down I reckon.

On the Brandy sphere of things, keep an eye out for Paul John XO Brandy, not sure if we'll get allocation but it's pretty fantastic from what I remember, and the bottle is gorgeous too.

I'll keep an eye out for the Paul John. It's a name I've been wanting to try but was initially put off due to some reviews out there. Looking back, they seemingly are more "Indian isn't whisky" snobbery.

I opened the Adelphi 25yo Armagnac last night. It's clearly better than most cognac I've tried but I'm still leaning toward local brandy as being my favourite. That "grapey influence" you mentioned is really strong here so I think it will need to air a bit to get all of the other flavours. I'm far from patriotic but we do it better. I just wish KWV released higher ABVs because their 12 year olds released in 2012 and 2015 were beauties.

Where does he go from here?

I can see him "reviving" a distillery but I can also see him going the Jim McEwan route and just retiring. He is an exceptional craftsman, no doubt, but how well known is he in the world? That's a genuine question, btw, not a dig at all.

BTW, how long does James Sedgwick usually take to deliver? I placed an order last Wednesday and haven't heard a peep. Whisky Brother's arrived Friday morning.

In addition to a host of global awards achieved for the whiskies and the distillery, Watts was awarded in 2016 and 2018 the title as 'Rest of the World Master Distiller/Master Blender' in Whisky Magazine’s Icons of Whisky Awards and in the 2018 awards went on to be named as the 'Global Icons of Whisky Master Distiller/Master Blender'.

More recently he received the '2020 Global Icon World Whisky Ambassador Award' for his passion in not only creating whisky but in sharing knowledge of South African whiskies around the globe.

He is being inducted into the Whisky Hall of Fame...'nuff said I reckon.

Indian Whisky is amazing...I would however recommend Amrut above Paul John.

Paul John makes amazing spirit and they also have a hyper modern distillery. Nealy all of Amrut is distilled at Paul John distillers, since Amrut was built in 1945 and since then extremely little has been done re. infrastructure and maintenance,

But what Amrut does best is blend and age...this is why major private bottles, e.g. LMWD buy exclusive Amrut barrels and bottle some of the most amazing Whisky you will ever drink.

What am I missing here in that statement? Is the 2021 release matured for a longer period?

They take their time, I'm in JHB and it took around 2 weeks. You won't get a tracking number, the delivery guy will just rock up at your gate.

I'm barely ever home (but make exceptions for deliveries) so this is not a good sign.

I have Amrut Fusion and really wish to branch out with the distillery. It makes me more keen to try Paul John if they distill both products. Thank you.

Glendronach went into hibernation at some point so when they rereleased their core range they only had much older barrels so for quite some time you were getting much older whisky than what it said on the label.

As example, people weren't buying the 15 Revival for Billie Walker's name, they were buying those last bottles because it was actually 21 year old whisky before resetting in 2017. The 12 reset in 2014 (18 in 2013), the 18 reset in 2019 (24 years) and the 21 will reset in 2022 (27 year old).

Something new I've learnt...and of course you're a big Glendronach fan

Or look for single casks that places like WhiskyBrother get. I have had two different SCs from them that were nice high abvs and well priced.

I still have a spare bottle of this one waiting - https://www.whiskybrother.com/products/glendronach-11-year-old-px-cask-whiskybrother
