At last my own bottle of Booker's.

Did a combined shipment from MOM a while ago with @morkhans and when he fetched his loot, we had a impormptu bourbon tasting. He was generous enough to open his bottle there and then so we could taste.

And it was one of the best Bourbon's I've ever had...so I just HAD to get a bottle too. For all the real Bourbon lovers...get one of these if they are still available that is?

James B. Beam Co. to be REALLY exact...very interesting 225 years of history this distillery has. Jim Beam...owned by Beam Suntory...that opened James B. Beam Distilling Co. in 2021.

But at the end of the day, wonderful Bourbon indeed.

The #FridayWhiskyMafia did this line up Friday past, along with a starter of an excellent whisky sour to mix up.

I am a long time fan of Noah's Mill and Four Roses and they did not disappoint. The divisive one here is the well acclaimed Staff Jr. The day I poured the sampled I had a small taste and it was like drinking pure ethanol - no flavour, burn like hell, no nose, etc. I almost thought there was something wrong with it. Anyways, some web searching suggests this one changes radically after a few weeks of oxidation and time.

Friday was no different - first go, some loved and some hated. But with a touch of water and for me over an hour in the glass, it was fantastic - now align better with the reputation.

lovely line up.

I recently added a bottle of Ardbeg An Oa to my collection. Surprising stuff to say the least.

I do enjoy it but for that price I cannot help but feel a bit sorry that I didn't rather buy another bottle of Macallan 12.

How are the other two "affordable" Ardbeg's, Wee Beastie and 10 year?

I have all 3 and tbh they are all same same for me. they are not different enough to warrant having 1 of each, that's my personal opinion, but I don't have a crazy palate or anything.

An Oa is routinely on special around 699-750. Ardbeg Ten is usually 699.

I prefer An Oa out of the whole range, I like the wine/sherry mix of it. I think it will be discontinued sooner or later. I don't like wee beastie. though for sherried Islay, Lagavulin 16 is what I'll probably buy again (eventually...).

Macallan 12 is a different ballpark, the main competing whisky is Glendronach 12, and maybe Glengoyne 12. I think they're all similar enough. Macallan 12-18 don't differ enough anyway. I think the new Benriach 12 triple cask is a better whisky overall while still being somewhat in that park.

Good on you for trying something different but it seems you favour sherry over peat.

I really enjoy both, but seems wee beastie gets some mixed reviews here.

This comes down to personal taste. They are all brilliant imo (with their unique differences). But if you looking for more of variety then don't get a 10 or a Wee Beastie next.

Save a little more and get an Uigeadail. You wont regret it. It is special and sufficiently different.

Would agree here, Uigeadail is amazing

Can be replaced but quite pricey. Released at R720 many many moons ago.
Indeed. I picked up 2 bottles as part of a normal NGF work bar purchase a few years back. Seen it going around for some large sums...
