White iPhone 4 delay

Apple said Friday it is postponing the launch of a white version of its new iPhone 4 smartphone to later this year, due to manufacturing problems, leaving customers with only a black option.

This is really crap... i was hoping we would get it here, but obviously we are going to be getting all the black ones. Anymore info regarding vodacom launch of this thing? Im due for upgrade atm. I havnt bothered to phone vodacom myself to get an update, last time the people on the phone didnt even know what an iphone was

I got my VODACOM upgrade... an iPhone 3GS 16Gb (with a rattle (search for iPhone 3GS "death rattle")) :) not going to hassle with the numerous swap outs, as it seems too affect 99.9% of iPhone 3GS's :)

September, apparently. You can "pre-order" on the website. Not sure about the black/white story though.

how do they not design the white iphone and test it months ago already?

do they one day wake up and go, oh *****, a white iphone 4, we forgot we do those, quick build one. no, dont like it, next...no, thats worse, next...

I dont understand their build process. Usually the physical (including paint) is developed months before the insides are (to allow for proper testing)

This could explain the reception problems I guess.

"here Bob, here is the new iphone 4 casing"
"Great, it JUST fits, now to test the phone in the casing"
"No bob, its being shipped out in the next hour..."

Well at least old Stevie sorta halfway acknowledges through this that there is a problem with the iphone 4, better than their algorithm bull**** or 'holding it in a different way'.

I'm pretty sure the real reason for the delay is because they are trying to see if they can sort out the reception issues with the white iphone (without admitting it). That way they will reduce the overall percentage of people complaining about the reception issues once the white one is launched and making it seem as if there was no big issue to begin with.

Having said that, I'm due for an upgrade end of this month, but will definitely be waiting for the iphone 4 to be launched locally before deciding what to get.

Nah, if I know Apple, I don't think that's what they're doing. I think they're struggling with the right materials.

Hopefully theyre sorting out the antenna issue. That would bring back confidence in the product.

They won't fix the antenna. What's to fix? It's already the most popular product they've ever had, and they've had some popular products! And a close 2nd is the iPad. The only issue they're having now is getting enough IPS panels from the manufacturer to keep up with demand for iPads and iPhone 4's.

Quote "According to specialist websites, Apple's white-model problem is the difficulty in developing a white paint formula for the case that is opaque enough to produce an appealing white and transparent enough to allow signal transmissions."

What a load of crap. Why not use the same paint they used on the iPhone 3Gs?

This is all because of the issues surrounding the antennae. They can't say they are holding back the design to address the signal issues as the would then be opening themselves up to a recall of 4 million black iPhone 4's

All of the rantings above are really just speculation. My contract expires as the end of the year, and the only thing I am concerned about is wether MTN will be supplying iPhone 4's in their upgrade options. I am tired of having to pay the full cash price.

The white 3GS is not painted. It is white plastic. The white iPhone 4 is painted glass.
