Tell that to the old guard at Telkom. They don't know sh*t! My manager at Telkom had only matric as his formal qualification. He was a white afrikaaner. That was true for the majority of managers there. Tell me how did he get that far without any tertiary education? Simple because they ran the show pretty much the way they liked.

If any black person can get a job regardess of whether they can do it or not, then why are so many of them unemployed?

My current position is AA. The minimum requirements were simple, A Bsc, CISSP/ CISM/CISA and five years experience in information security management. I met all of the requirements. But if this was not an AA position, a white guy with 15-20 years experience would have got the job. There were virtually no ppl of colour in this field a dacade ago. Even today there is still very few black women qualified and experienced in this area. SABC has been looking for one for the past six months. According to your theory they can just grab any black female with no experience/qualifications. I'm sorry to say, but it does not work that way!

What axactly are the requirements for med's school...6 distinctions seems more than enough to me. Especially since most matriculants do just 6 subjects. What more can one do?

the issue with med school is that there are only so many only a limited number of students that can be taught (its not like electrical engineering with thousands of students)....hence competition is tough.

my friend was also denied entry to wits med school, she didn't have enough distinctions....so she studied some bio something or other also and qualified, waited until she was 25 and then applied, after the age of 25 you cannot be turned down by any university, she is doing well in her second year.

The person evaluating the applicants for the degree would recognise that as a mature student with a completed degree she has a proven work ethic, and probably a better chance of success than someone fresh out of school. - But they're not forced to accept her.

Do you know that a lot of black students registering for Computer Science 101, have never touched a computer before? For them, varsity provides a real learning opportunity. For the first time they can do their pracs in LABS and LANS instead of doing them in the exercise book!

An obsession with 'Qualifications' is quite sad. Alot the great inventors never had any tertiary education. I have been at places where the AA candidates where just a waste of time! .. and they ALL had degrees! You need Confidence and the spirit to succeed, not papers.

Look at the education systems....Med students are required to do community service to qualify. Nothing wrong with that!, just they send these students to the Government hospitals that are in such bad conditions and dont have the resources to do their job properly... what happens then? .. they Leave South Africa and get a job in a Australian/European hospital. Look at South African teachers - leaving SA due to bad pay and working condidtions.

Who really cares about university in SA ... it will get you as far as the McDonalds counter "do you want fries with that"

It was no coincidence, the position was advertised as AA. Go to careerjunction.co.za and have a look at the AA advertisments. Look at the requirements and let me know if they differ from the non AA adverts

After an interview with them, I wished them good luck finding a black woman who meets all those requirements. They told me they are not in a hurry.

Firstly, let me confirm that this person did call in to the radio station, because I heard it myself.

Secondly, I didn't believe it at the time and don't believe it now.

Unless there was some sort of clerical error, that sort of thing just did not happen.

Hearing it on 702 does not make it any more credible. 702 is a master of manipulation. I've heard many stories from them that turned out to be rubbish. Lasty week I heard their extended news broadcast in the morning about tourists reflecting on their recent visits to SA. Most were mentioning crime and that they felt unsafe. By the end of the day, the story had shifted completely to "What a wonderful country. It has a few problems but we loved it". All the bits about crime had been edited out.

The matric system was never easy, regardless of your particular race. Sure, white people during apartheid had a better education and that's a separate issue, but I don't know of anyone who didn't get exactly the grades they deserved.
