As you can see this is an expensive and difficult undertaking and would require alot of work from both the government and the people seeking education, but it is something that should be done in any country regardless of the past and in our circumstances it is criminal that it isn't happening.

There is alot more that can be said on this topic, but I think that answers your question?

Yes it does. Thank you icyrus.

Then scan the papers to see how many bursaries are available to white kids.

Like I said, Most white parents can afford to send their kids to university, while most non white parents cant. So why should white kids receive bursaries.

AA is being applied incorrectly - it is being applied at the expense of often better equipped individuals in favour of skin colour. BEE, on the other hand, is being milked by an Elite select few.

Yes I agree but all the equipped individuals are white. Until this imbalance is re addressed, then only will be able to choose on a fair basis.

It is quite difficult, this AA. I understand that it is hard for people to accept the fact that they lose out on people who are less equipped for the job but if AA is not applied, then Non whites really will never be able to get high paid jobs. Without AA, this imbalance would never be addressed and the haves will remain on top while the have-nots will remain at the bottom.

It is unfortunate that at your work the AA employees do nothing but I have seen non AA employees do nothing as well. I find it quite sad that some people do not understand WHY AA is used. The problem is not with the governments policies, the problem is with People. People steal, murder, lie, etc irrespect of whether they are white or black.

The problem is not with the governments policies

I understand what you are trying to say but I think you are wrong. There is a problem with any government policy that divides people by race.

Most parents can't afford to send their kids to a tertiary institution. Do me a favour, and go and ask your local bank manager what percentage of personal loans and student loans go to white families. Then scan the papers to see how many bursaries are available to white kids.

Excellent point.

I am from a reasonably middle class to well-off white family, attended a public school, enjoyed an arguably better than standard high school education and am now going to university. I achieved above 90% for each one of my school subjects in matric as well as a 106% average, yet I do not qualify for even one single bursary, except for a R7 000 generic discount given to all students who achieved 95% or more.

Practically all of the other bursaries available requires one to be black. Now, I am wondering, why my non-white fellow matriculants, who live in the same area, attended the same school as I and have as good an income in their households, but do not achieve as well as I do, should be awarded these bursaries over me? Is it just me, or is that just plain racial discrimination against me because I am white?

The problem is education. Public schools and specifically schools in poor areas are not up to the same standards as the private schools and hence the pupils tend to receive a less thorough education than their wealthy counterparts. This part is obvious. The solutions are much more tricky.

Why are they not on standard
1 Get new books furniture
2morrow stolen burnt down

I have a better solution just give everyone a degree he/she wants (No money required)

Like they did in apartheid and judging by the standards of your posts, you probably received too. :D

Don't talk nonsense. There are more and more black kids coming through all the time. Obviously AA and BEE is not working properly anyway. Cyril Ramaphosa and Tokyo Sexwale are paramount examples.

This is my take. If two similarly skilled and graded applicants for a position come through, and one is white and the other not, give the job to the non white. If, however, there is a marked difference in grading and ability, then give the best candidate the job. That way there is a benefit to the black kid on an equal opportunity basis, but where there is exceptional distinction and ability, the top man or woman gets the job. I don't want to be in a situation where I employed a bad candidate because of colour. I want the best possible fit.

Frankly I don't care about any black kidd
Just ask mama jack

Agg shame he suffered under apartheid

Now you're really showing your true ignorant colours... No one was ever just handed a degree. South African universities are world renowned institutions and have been since they've come about - particularly our medical and engineering faculties are and were extremely sought after. So don't talk nonsense, those with degrees from these renowned and established institutions worked their arses off for them.

I rest my case :)

Nobody got degrees in the apartheid era for free the only under standard place was University of the North

I never saw people toi toi because the standerds were to tough

You are partially correct but this is only first generation blacks that are coming through now. The white students have parents and grand parents etc who all have degrees. ( this makes them 2nd or 3rd generations)You may not agree but I am sure that the percentage of students irrespective of colour, who are from a second generation perform better than those from the first generation. Now how many blacks are from second generation. AA IS needed and like I say when the numbers start evening out, then they can adopt your policy. Unfortunately, you have to be realistic and your method just wont work at this point in time.

You know this reminds me of a lecturer at my university. At a meeting a white lecturer said that its been 10 years now, this AA needs to stop. The black lecturer then asked the white one how many people in his family has degrees. He replied with 20 something. The black lecturer laughs and says " I am the only one in my family".

I agree just a pity these same institutions was forced to lower their standards because if they did not they probably also would have been burned to the ground.

Wow. I am the first in mine to get a degree. This proves what? Where did you get your degree?

So as and eg: KPMG was giving a bursaries to give away, you got a 95% average and the black kid got a 95% average he studied in his cold shack with a candle and you had all the comforts in the world.

Who should get the bursury?

It is just another Propaganda story with the exclamation on story

Didn't and are the ANC still using these type of stories?

The kid living in a cold shack with a candle is not my problem anymore. It is the government's problem and it's about time it starts taking responsibility. There are many wealthy black kids about as well, you know?

Edit: So......

A black kid that does worse in his grades is awarded a bursary while the white kid with several distinctions and an above 100% average that fared hugely better is not. The black kid's minimum required grades at university is lower for a pass than the white kid's. The black kid graduates and automatically receives an AA position based on his skin colour and his shiny new degree. Mmmm. Levelled the playing fields indeed.

That was said in tongue and cheek. Like I said before people have admitted to receiving matric certificates and exemptions during apartheid. This means that they should never have been in university in the first place. Whether you choose to accept this fact is your problem. SA universities are overated, I speak from experience. I am an engineer from UCT (Apparently a top SA (oops, I mean African) university). I did not work my arse off

And you passed with top honours?

EDIT: Just because of a few people that you know of that were given their Matric certificate doesn't make it the norm. In fact, there was probably some kind of corrupt arrangement in place. On the other hand, I know of a black woman who holds a Matric certificate and works for the SAPS. Only problem is, this woman cannot read or write. She doesn't even know how to spell her own name.
