I know nothing about washing, but recently got a new helper and have noticed that my white shirts are going grey. Not from age - as one is literally a few weeks old and been worn twice - but she's obviously doing something :/

What is she doing wrong and can I correct they grey shirts?

She's washing your white clothing along with another item that is giving off some dye.

or

She's overstuffing your washingmachine and it's therefore not washing the clothing well. (too compacted)

or

She's not using enough washingpowder.

White and light clothing are washed together.
Dark clothing is washed together.
Machine must not be stuffed too full.

She must separate the white from the dark colours, washing white clothing with jeans would just be idiotic.

You need to get her to show you how she is doing the washing.

Try Vanish... we couldn't get some of our whites back to snow white, but that stuff actually worked wonders... just get the right one, there are for hand washing, white and colours...

Maybe a newish black sock got mixed in with the whites.

Whites must be washed separately, high temp, you can put in a scoop of Vanish White, or half a cap of jik.

Wash new items separately the first time, if they are dark colours then add salt to their first wash.

For your stuff that is already grey, if it is cotton then soak in a jik solution as per bottle instructions (not for too long!! must be a weak solution!!) or get Vanish White and follow directions on that.

Amazing all the okes answer this thread and not one of chicks/ladies/females have answered yet :p

:D We know that when it's grey it will never be shinny white again. And jik works the best to get it better.

Yo, gald you're not my gf :D Jik is kark, it thins the farbic causing your clothes to tear. Vanish really is the best I've seen lately.

this is why u must always check the labels before you buy it. (Yah when u buy, so that its less hassle than separating clothes and still hoping nothing runs with other colours too)

Nature and wild life stuff.
Not too noisy colors. Brown, white, grey, sort of colors.
So when should I come take my stuff? :)

No hell for those stuff you need skill!! I envy people that can do that. But i can find you someone.:D

Yeh, whites should be washed seperately from other clothing. Too much soappowder can also be the cause.

What about a black AND white shirt? :/

If I stick it with the blacks, the white may go grey - but if I stick it with whites, the black may run and ruin all my whites ...

OMO foam action BLEACH

works wonders for School shirts, i have 2 kids still wearing them
