Coming from this article : http://www.fin24.com/Economy/Average-SA-worker-supports-3-others-20130114

Figured I'd ask. Who do you support or help out with bills and the rest. Informal survey and if you don't mind stating your race too :).
Percentage of your salary or actual amount you spend on them?

Or are you a dependent on someone

Me (Black) :
Help my lil' brother out with spending money and tech every once in a while. Oh and his sport fee's.
Pay for my parents internet (I'm there 80% of the time though)
Help around the house as well.

Percentage of my salary: 8% odd.

Parents will help me out with petrol if they use my car or when it's been a really bad month.

EDIT: Mod could you please change thread title to "Who do you support", hadn't had my morning coffee yet

My wife, two toddler daughters and then from this year I took in my cousin's daughter as well. So I'll be supporting her too (parents alcoholic). Told them if they don't care about their child I'll take her and help her finish matric (she's in grade 11 this year).

So that's 100% :)

about 60% of my salary in direct and indirect taxation, supporting god knows how many freeloaders.
Also employ two people around the house.

I pay all my mother's bills and chronic medication.
Pay for my dad's, girlfriend and my internets.
Now and then give money to my sis who is studying.

Support my fiancee (although she works for me, so we're square), paid for my brothers education and support my father most of the time. Both my brothers also work for me, so not sure if that counts. Employ 35 people.

Pay for the parents' DSTV and now and again when they ask to help them out.

No one, although technically my mom who lives in a property that I could be renting out.
30% odd in income taxes, which would probably cover a low level govt. salary or two, or a handfull of grants.

Aside from the above, I only support myself, wife and daughter. I have a huge issue with family members wanting money loans as we as a household save a minimum of R6000pm in various forms (policies and investments) in case of a rainy day, whereas nearly all of them carry on financially as if tomorrow will not come.
Sure, that R6k means our house is not has huge as it can be, nor is the car as fancy, or the TV as huge, but come tough times such unemployment or unexpected death/disability, there will be more than enough to live in comfort.
