In a statement, Solidarity deputy general-secretary Dirk Hermann said the trade union has concerns about the large number of senior employees who have left Telkom.

In March, chief sales and marketing officer Wally Beelders and chief technology officer Thami Msimango left within a week of each other.

"We get the impression that the relationship between Molotsane and the government was tense and that the government tried to intervene in the management of Telkom.

"It remains a bone of contention to us that the government, which is responsible for regulating the telecommunications industry, is at the same time the largest shareholder (38%) in Telkom," said Hermann.

In its story regarding Molotsane's resignation, the Sunday Times stated that Molotsane "was beginning to feel alone and frustrated in his bid to clean up inherent corruption within the group".

Surely the DoC has to comment on this.

"This is not the first time that issues of international corruption have surfaced. There is a lot of uncertainty at this stage," Hermann said.

"In the modern information era, efficient broadband communication is vital. Telkom's services are inadequate and exorbitantly expensive.

"We should like an independent commission also to investigate this problem, and the negative effect that it has on our country's economy," Hermann said.

Just a way for telkom to keep there prices high until they can get a new CEO and then they will say he/she has to ajust to the new enviroment of telcoms so that he or she can adapt to the new surroundings cause they were in a company that has got nothing to do with communication.
